We were looking too - I attached the post where I got recommendations.
We were looking at the Samsung and Whirlpool but, were geared towards the Whirlpool since we needed to stack them. We ended up going with the Maytag 5000 Series with Steam. They were highly rated by Consumer Reports (they scored 82 and the top score was 84) and they were 1/2 price at PC Richards. ETA - We haven't gotten them yet so I can't reccommend.

Overall, price-wise and for what you get for your money these rated the best. We did a lot of homework. We are very pleased - have had them almost eight months now... got them shortly after we moved into our first home.
That being said, if you have the $ (we were on a tight budget for them) for Electrolux or something like LG I would totally splurge and go for it. My mom bought top-of-the-line LG appliances when she re-did her kitchen and she got a new washer/dryer at the same time. She is absolutely in love with them. She looked at Electrolux and LG - with steam. They are just beautiful, her machines are amazing.

I have a cherry red LG steam washer and steam dryer and I LOVE them!!!!! Lots of cycle options on both machines, really quiet, just fabulous. Have had them since May. LG has great customer service too - I called when I had a question.

Very happy with our LG's. 2 of my gf's and I all bought them at the same time 2 yrs ago and no issues at all. Love all the washing and drying options!
