When is the right time...

to buy things for your baby?

I find out the sex on March 8th and I immediatly want to go out and buy some little things.

I'll be 20 weeks & 3 days on March 8th but my mom says it's still too soon?

I don't think it's too soon because so far everything is going well.

HELP!

Re: When is the right time...

I didn't really buy much until after my shower. You really don't know what you will get and what you will need until after. I did buy a few cute outfits I couldn't resist before that, but that's it.

Re: When is the right time...

traditionally jews dont buy anything for the baby until after it is born, and dont have showers. I'm not very religious and DH isn't Jewish, plus I would like a baby shower so we are bending the rules.

I was a little nervous when MIL ran out and bought us a few baby outfits the second we told them (we were only 5w and hadn't even seen a hb yet) but it is what it is. We will probably start shopping a little once we find out the gender Chat Icon

I think it's right when you feel comfortable. If you are finding out the gender you may want to wait until then. I didn't buy anything until I was 28 weeks the first time around but I was also team Chat Icon so it was easy to resist the urge.

Re: When is the right time...

First time around I don't think I ever bought him anything. Don't know why, just didn't.

This time I found out they were girls at 17 weeks and started buying things immediately after.

It should be whatever you are comfortable with!

Re: When is the right time...

With pg #1, I bought stuff for right after my first sono. It wasn't really planned though - I happened to be at the mall and it was a few weeks after christmas and they had a cute Baby's First Christmas outfit. I didn't really buy anything else until I found out she was a girl. It was only clothing though. I waited for bigger things until after the shower.

I only bought one thing so far this time and it's for a boy. So if I find in a few weeks it's a girl, I'll return it. It was really cute pj's and I couldn't resist them b/c they were on the clearance rack.

Re: When is the right time...

It is the right time whenever you feel it is the right time. My mom started buying things within a week (hadn't even had my first sono yet). I think I bought my first thing about a week after my first sono. My mom was at the stores the night after my 20w sono buying boy stuff. DH and I bought the bedding (because we weren't sure it would still be available over the winter - we would have just made it though, it wasn't in BRU this weekend but was there right before my shower) at about 16 weeks. I've only bought a few things overall (my mom has more than made up for it Chat Icon), and waited until after the shower to buy any bigger things that I hadn't received (like the monitor).

Re: When is the right time...

I think our parents get super excited when they find out they're going to be grandparents so they went out and bought stuff...then when I told my family, students and boss they went and bought stuff as well. I'm thinking with all these crazies in my life I won't need to buy her anything till she's 25 lol!!! But seriously, I would love to go clothes shopping but I'm not buying anything until after she's born aside for stuff to decorate her room!
