rhogam shot
I understand why they give it...but why do they want to give it to me 3 times? I'm just getting really frustrated with all the doctors at this point.
Has anyone gotten this shot? I got mine end of december when I got my amnios. They say it lasts 12 weeks. So...I'm confused why they want to give it again now AND after I deliver.
The lil research I did is scary. People are saying the shot is high on mercury.
I dunno anymore. I'm still in the hospital. Doctors still can't explain much...and I'm just tired of all the medications and shots at this point just to be "careful" because "we really don't know what going on with you." I'm trying so hard to continue to be possitive regardless of how hard this pregnancy has been...but I really am starting to feel discouraged...
Is there anyone here that has gotten the shot more than once during pregnancy. Maybe you gals can help me make a decision.

Re: rhogam shot
I got it twice. I got it once in the beginning due to spotting and one at 28 weeks. I get one more after the baby is born. Are you spotting at all? If you were they will give it to you more than usual.
I've never heard of anything bad about the shot. I've heard worse things if you don't get it.

Re: rhogam shot
The decision should be to take it. No question. I had it throughtout my pregnacy. Its for the health of your baby and any future kids to come( the shot after you give birth ).
You need to look at it like this, these doctors are professionals, if they say get this shot, take this pill, stand on your head and spit wooden nickles, do it. Im not a pill popper, hate needles, but if it meant keeping my kid heathly and safe its done. Its a PITA but a small sacrafice to make.

Re: rhogam shot
I've had it twice already as well and will have it again when I give birth (although what I hear about that is based on whether this child is positive, but I think it's either way) and have heard that there are more adverse reactions if you DON'T have it, especially should you have successive children.

Re: rhogam shot
I've only heard of it being harmful if you don't get the shot and are RHnegative.
It's to protect you and your future pregnancies from being attacked by your immune system.

Re: rhogam shot
Thanx girls. I know how important it is. I just don't understand why I have to get it again after 8 weeks instead of waiting for the full 12 weeks till it expires or something closer to that.
I'm also in the hospital...might deliver sometime soon...why not just wait to give it after instead of giving me another now..then again within a matter of days after I deliver. That's what troubles me.
It is good to hear that some of you have also gotten it (or will get it) 3 times as well.

Re: rhogam shot
Just had an amnio yesterday! I needed to get rhogham but I had twice with my last pregnAncy , once before delivery and immediately following. I needed the shot yesterday and then will get it the regular 2 x to follow, I was told whenever any invasive procedure is done such as an amnio then you need to have rhogham given. It's a precaution. Anything that may cause any type of bleeding for any reason it would be given for the safety of yourself and the baby.
