Prenatals vs Multivitamin
Hi, Ladies!
Went to the ob/gyn the other day for an annual. Knowing we would be TTC later in the year, I asked how to prepare. She prescribed prenatals. I understand the need for DHA and folic acid, however the multivitamin I take now has so many other vitamins in it, too.
Do you take the prenatals and supplement with other vitamins? I have heard some ladies take a multi and supplement with folic acid and DHA.
Just wondering what everyone does...
Thanks!

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
I mainly just take a prenatal OTC. It has I think 600mg of Folic Acid and I believe thats whats most important. I also take Vitamin D but thats only being I was vit. d deficient and Dr. had recommended that for me. Ive also started taking b6 to lengthen my luetal phase but I dont know if I will continue that.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
I like th gummy multi vitamins and I usually take 2 a day, so now I have started the women's one a day prenatal and just have 1 multi vitamin towards the middle of the day.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
My dr had told me a regular multivitamin was fine while TTC. I continued what I had been taking for a while and then switched to prenatal once I ran out. To be honest, I don't remember seeing any differences when reading the labels.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
i am taking a multi vitamin that had exactly the same amount of folic acid and dha as the prenatal. i think prenatals might have more iron.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
I was taking a multi, but when I went to the gyn she gave me a bunch of prenatal samples so I'm going to take those and when they run out I'll do over the counter. I think it makes your uterine wall stronger or something. Not sure so don't take my word for it, but it can't hurt.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
I take a OTC prenatal and an OTC DHA. My OB said that is fine for TTC and pregnant. I did the same when pregnant with my DD.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
When we started TTC the first time, my OB prescribed prenatals and I started taking those and stopped taking my multivitamin.

Re: Prenatals vs Multivitamin
I was told that prenatals are actually better vitamins for us to take all the time not just preg.
its just that some people can stomach them.
