should I look for an RE?

My gyn told me I would need to go on clomid b/c she thinks I dont ovulate b/c my cycles are so long. We wanted to try on our own first but we've been trying since july. Should I look for an RE OR try somehing else first?

Re: should I look for an RE?

unless you have a reason to not trust your gyno and want another opinion... i would go straight to an RE...

Re: should I look for an RE?

if you are going to be starting clomid I would say it is best to go to a RE. They will do a lot more monitoring than a gyno so you know if the clomid is working. Plus, they will do testing to see what is going on and why your cycles are long.

I would go straight to on RE if you're going to go the clomid route. It's best to be monitored on it by someone who specializes in fertility. I did one cycle on Clomid with my regular OBGYN. I wish I didn't. The monitoring you get at an RE is great.

Re: should I look for an RE?

I would def. go and see an RE....some docs are so quick to place people on clomid, and they dont even know the route of the cause.

I see Dr. Braverman...so far I really like him

Re: should I look for an RE?

Depends on your GYN. Mine is putting me on clomid and Im starting IUIs....be he also monitors me closely. So he does infertility as well....I wont move on unless I have to do IVF.

Re: should I look for an RE?

do you even have a d/x for why you aren't ovulating? thats the first step in figuring out how to get you to ovulate. most ob/gyns dont even explore it, they just throw clomid at you which may or may not work.

def see an RE. its not worth wasting the time with an ob/gyn. an RE specializes in getting you pregnant, that's their job. and although the previous poster mentioned her ob/gyn does infertility, if you need drugs other than clomid, like injectables, its def important to see an RE.

She did a sono and saw that I had cysts and took bloodwork at days 21. So with that and my lost cycles, she said I didn't ovulate. A bunch of people on here said that doesn't necessarily mean I don't ovulate so I figured we'd try and see what happens. We've been trying since July and I don't want to keep trying if I should really just be seeing a Dr.

I did 3 with my GYN and had no monitoring and I feel like it wasted a lot of time. Ask how your GYN plans to monitor, if the office does not do U/S then I would move on to an RE. Good luck! Chat Icon

I have extremely long cycles...but I do ovulate. I ovulated on cd52 when I got pregnant with my now 6 mo old DD.
I just spent a fortune on OPK and POAS every day! Have you tried that?
