Had my ulltrasound this morning...
It's not fun drinking 32 ounces of water at 6:00 am!!
The tech said she didn't see any cysts, so that's good news. But the doctor thought it was going to be PCOS, so without cysts I don't know if he is still going to recommend Clomid or not. (Can you have PCOS without cysts?)
It's weird - it's good news that it's not cysts, but now I feel a little lost again - like maybe they won't be able to figure out what's wrong.
I go back to the doctor next week for my follow-up. Wish me luck.

Re: Had my ulltrasound this morning...
Lauren, Great news!! I'm glad there are no cycts. I don't know if you can have PCOS w/o cycts...it doesn't seem possible but I'm not a doctor. I just wanted to give and tell you I'm glad things went well.
I know all about feeling lost...we'll get through this. We need answers and then we can move on.
Are you seeing a RE or OBGYN?

I have PCOS and I don't have cysts on my ovaries. Cysts are just one "symptom" and not every person with PCOS has them.
If you want do a search on the net and you'll come up with a bunch of great sites that will give you a wealth of info.
Don't give up hope - MANY women with this disease are able to conceive. Good luck and much baby dust to you!!!!

Re: Had my ulltrasound this morning...
Lauren, I am glad they didn't find any cysts ... and that overall things looked good during your ultrasound. That is good news!
I'm no expert on PCOS , but I've done some reading on it. And I do not believe that you necessarily have to have evident "cysts" on your ovaries in order to have this condition... my GYNO had originally thought I had PCOS when I approached them last year about my irregular cycles and severe pain during AF. After some testing with the endocrinologist (extensive bloodwork, etc) they came to the conclusion that I didn't have PCOS (it turned out I had endometriosis, another story entirely)
So PCOS is not an easy thing to diagnose because the symptoms are different in everyone.
I know about feeling lost -- that is where I'm at right now and it stinks But as others have said, even if you do have PCOS try not to worry - I have heard of many women (MY SIL included) who got PG with this condition and went on to have healthy children.
Also - I could be wrong, but I do not think that prescribing you Clomid or not would have anything to do with whether you have PCOS or not. If your doctor determines your main problem is a lack of consistent ovulation (which seems to be possible, since you have long irregular cycles like I do) then Clomid may be your next step. THey might want to do an HSG to see if your tubes are blocked before prescribing the Clomid, however.
GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks! Did you have to be put on anything to conceive? (If you aren't comfortable answering, please don't feel that you have to.)
I did some searching and found some good sites. It's strange to me that something called Poly CYSTIC Ovarian Syndrome doesn't actually mean that cysts exist.

Re: Had my ulltrasound this morning...
Did they test your glucose level ? Sometimes when a woman is insulin resistant, they label it 'pcos'.
How's your prolactin level as well ?
TSH level ?
If they want to put you on clomid, inquire about femara, which is a successful medication that used to be use soley for breast cancer but works well for inducing ovulation..and doesn't have the side effects that clomid does....like thining of the lining and .....possibly causing cysts. If your insulin is off, they should combine femara with metformin...the combination works great for pcos women. Why do they think you have pcos ? Is it because your cycles are irregular ? Do you chart ? You may be ovulating very very very late, I know women who have gotten pregnant around day 50...of a cycle.....

Jeez. Can I take you with me to my next appointment!!??!??
I don't know what half of that even means, but I will make sure to write this down and ask my doc.
He took TONS of blood from me, so I'm sure some of that is in there. This was only my first step in the process, so we haven't gotten too far along yet.
Thanks!!
