Talk to me about acupunture!
I'm thinking I might like to start acupuncture in preparation for my next cycle back after bcp.
For those who have done it, what have your experiences been?
Also, I'm looking for a rec for somewhere in Nassau if anyone has a good one!!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I can tell you that I've been doing it for a whole year now and I'm totally hooked on it One can go on and on about it's benefits but here is what it's has done for me so far.
It's very relaxing and has really lowered my FSH levels to normal levels, the color of the blood during my periods has changed to a bright red throughtout my cycle (sorry TMI ), I don't get migraine headaches before periods like I used to, no PMS....I could go on and on.
I've heard that for women that don't ovulate on their own, it can bring on ovulation. It increases the blood flow to the pelvic area and that way your ovaries get stimulated to ovulate and also make better quality eggs.
It took me trying 4 different doctors before finding the right one and I absolutely love him! His name is James Vitali and he's in Huntington by the Walt Whitman mall. FM for more info.

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
if you want to start for next cycle i really suggest starting iit in the next week if you want to maximize its effectiveness. acupuncture is like metformin, it's effectiveness builds upon itself. so the longer you are doing it the more response you will see.
for me, im sure you already know this , but i did it for 4 months leading up to my IVF (with two TI cycles in between). the first major difference i noticed wasn't until 4 months in when i started my IVF. for some reason, with NO additional meds, my lining was the best its ever been. mine has always been borderline good enough, never great. during IVF, DAYS before ER it was already thicker than it had been in cycles that i was taking vitamin E and meds for it. and we didnt do anything meds-wise for it. so i have to think that acupuncture is the reason.
other than that i find it really relaxing. that effect was immediate at the first appointment. it also relieved some of my bloat and OHSS symptoms post-ER.
i go to Michael Bennett at SIRM in NYC, but Im sure you can find some great infertility specialist acupuncturists on Long Island. good luck!!!!!

Yea that's the plan if I decide to do it (which I really think I might!!) ....... I figure rather than waste the next few weeks I may as well use them productively!!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I used to go and loved it! I plan to start up again! It's very relaxing and they used to treat my back as well and it helped so much. I look at it this way, it can't hurt to do it so why not if it might help. I use Andrew Kaplan in Rockville centre and love him! Good luck!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
LOVED IT. Feel like it had a lot to do with my successful pregnancy. I did it about 1 month before transfer. On the 2nd time I went she stimulated a point in my leg and I felt this warm rush go up my whole cody and center in my stomach...it was amazing. I also used visualization which I feel really helped. Anji Online is the website I got that from.

I'm really interested in this too. Does insurance cover it? I've tried looking up some of the practitioners you mentioned but couldn't find them on my health insurance site because I didn't know what heading to look them up under.

I know we have the same insurance so if you do find one that we're covered for let me know!
ETA: and I'll do the same

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I have been doing it for almost 2years and I love it! I switched to Dr. Kaplan recently and I can't say enough good things about him. I love that he does have Sunday hours which can really help. It is so relaxing that I almost fall asleep during it. It has changed me for the better. I feel more relaxed and my periods are different. My insurance does not cover it, I pay out of pocket.

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I started acupuncture about a month ago after my failed IVF cycle. I also see Andrew Kaplan in RVC through a recommendation from Dr. B. I enjoy it. I can't say too much about success because I haven't started to cycle yet. I have GHI and pay out of pocket. It makes me feel like I'm doing somethig productive during the wait.

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I'm interested in trying it, but I honestly have the biggest fear of needles. You would think after injecting myself daily for weeks on end I would get over it..
I know a lot of people find it very relaxing, but does it hurt?

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I don't think Andrew Kaplan has a website. His hours are tues, wed, thurs, and sundays. He pretty much works all day I believe 9-7. He is flexible though. He is great! For the poster who asked if it hurts, it does not. The only point that I really feel any sort of pain I would say to be the ear but its only for 1 second when it goes in. It really is so relaxing!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
I have been to Dr. Liu in Merrick. Here is her info:
http://acupuncturists.healthprofs.com/cam/name/Siling_Liu_LAc,OMD_Merrick_New+York_502983
She is AMAZING and specializes in infertility. She also makes herbs for you to drink that are made specifically for you. She takes insurance (not all insurances cover acupuncture though). She gave me a discount because I have GHI insurance even though GHI didn't cover anything.
She's the nicest and most kindest person too!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
www.acufinder.com
That's a great website to locate acupuncturists. That's how I found Si Ling and she was right down the block from my job and didn't even know it! LOL
I've been to others and have found her to be the most knowledgeable. For my pre and post ET at SIRM, I used Michael Bennett. It was easier to do it in the city for the transfer acupunctures but I so prefer Si Ling over Michael because she's more knowledgeable. He was nice enough though.

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
First acupuncture appointment this Thursday!!
I'm going to a person in Huntington recommended by Dr.B.
I gotta say..... I'm not really into holisitic medicine so the fact that I'm putting $$ into this and giving it a try is pretty major! I really hope I like it though! At this point I'd be willing to run naked through the streets of Manhattan if it meant a BFP!
With about a month until my potential IUIs, it should be enough time for acupuncture to at least have SOME impact!

Re: Talk to me about acupunture!
It is amazing!!!!
I have PCOS and i didn't get my period for four months!!!! I started going to acu 2x a week to bring it on to avoid taking provera.
I started march 29th by april 18... AF arrived with a vengence!!!! then by may 26th i was preggo!!!
it is great, I have been continuing to go throughout my pregnancy 1x month and i love it.
cariann from Lighthouse wellness center is amazing!!! she is in east meadow!! and i think a venodr on here.
she is afforable and has packages you can purchase. also what is great is she is also a chiropractor and had a massage therapist on staff who specializes in prenatal massages!!

it depends what kind of treatment you are getting. they can be anywhere. feet, chest, belly arms....
if one spot hurts, they can rmove it and they are not stuck very deep at all!!!
def try it!!! it is so relaxing!! i always get to take a nice nap when i am there!!
