Pears in place of apples?

I've seen some really yummy sounding apple recipes but sadly I am allergic to apples! It sucks during the fall especially lol. Anyway do you think I could just replace the apples with sliced pears for say an apple crisp recipe?

I have made pear pie, however, I find that you really need to drain them before using them as they tend to give off more juice or you can add extra thickening agent (cornstarch, flour, etc.) to compensate. The pear pie I made while on the drippy mushy side was delicious
