Spinoff: New Neighbors
How did you meet your new neighbors?
Were they new to the block or you?
I should be moving in the next month, and have been wondering if we are supposed to go around to everyone's doors introducing ourselves? (awkward... )

We let people come to us. If we were out doing yard work people would walk by and introduce themselves.
When they saw the moving van, some people came over as well. We did not go introducing ourselves.

The sellers took us around the neighborhood and introduced us. We met more during trick or treating on Halloween.

i only know 2 neighbors on the block...the old couple across the street and the old couple next door. they are both the cutest and sweetest couples, very friendly, helpful - our neighbor next door lets DH borrow tools - real nice people...
both of those couples came out while we were out, we did a wave and then they approached us to welcome us to the neighborhood...
the rest of our neighbors we don't know - we wave to most but that is about it..
i've thought about approaching them but i don't really care

We were at the house when the sellers were leaving. Neighbors came over to say good bye to them, hello to us.
Others we met while we were hanging out in the yard.
When new neighbors move in, I've baked cookies and gone over to meet them.
I actually want to invite people over for a neighborly cocktail party this fall. We shall see.

Same here. We did a lot of work on our house the first month so we weren't living there just yet. It wasn't really until we moved in that we met our neighbors.

I only met our back neighbor (they have a very short fence) and the neighbors next to us we met. Other then that we wave or ignore each other. I don't see this block being a tight nit community type thing.

When we moved in, some of our neighbors came over to say hello and introduce themselves. We live on a small cul-de-sac with only 6 houses, so I thought everyone would be fairly social. Amazingly to me, there are a few neighbors who took almost a year and a half to say hello! There is one woman whose husband is always friendly, but she has yet to say hello, and we've now been in our house over two years. She doesn't even glance over to make eye contact!

We met two of the neighbors when we did our final walk through and then some neighbors came over and introduced themeselves. We had a block party a month later and met some more of the neighbors.

we didnt go around door to door....when we were out they introduced themselves. our next door neighbor introduced himself to DH, and my mom actually met his wife. i haven't met the wife but i waived hi to the husband... the neighbors across the street we haven't met. other neighbors like down the block were really friendly and introduced themselves as i was doing yard work.

we are new to the block... our neighbors on both sides are awesome... they love us !!! the last people that lived there were a nightmare apparently... the people on one side put up a huge fence because of them

we moved in 6 months ago. The neighbors to our left are SUPER nice they introduced themselves let us borrow there tools, help us out with stuff and always wave and say HI.
the 2nd day we were living there they came over and gave us our living room table w/ chairs b/c they were gonna throw them out...meanwhile they are the nicest table and chairs and coulda been a lot of money...but we took it cause we had nothing and we are forever grateful!
across the street from us the neighbors have given us SO much of things "they were gonna throw out" such as patio furniture and the cushions.
to the right of us, they hate us. they dont wave, they dont acknowlege that we are even there. THEY are super rude and disrespectful to us.
you can't win always around ya ..can ya

We were the new neighbors. They came to us...or to DH when he was doing yard work or moving stuff in.
We live in a pretty friendly neighborhood. I wasn't used to that, but it's nice.

we were the new neighbors to the block
one neighbor came over while we were working on the yard.
another neighbor (elderly) my DH went over to them in a snow storm and cleaned their driveway with our snow blower.
the people right next to us moved in a few months after us. we met them when both of us were having parties in our yards. my mother and i were doing drunken cartwheels and they were cheering us on..

we met my neighbors while doing work on/around the house. DH met the people on one side when he was working.....they are an elderly couple and the husband came over and introduced himself. when we moved in with the kids the first day I was outside with them he came over and introduced himself to me.....he is so sweet....90 yrs old, original owner of the house, likes to gossip about the neighbors  he brings my pails in and puts the newspaper on my stop if I am not out there by 9am
the people on the other side are anti-social. i was walking past their house so we said hello quickly but they have never "met" DH and we have been here since March. they turn the other way if we are outside.....just not friendly people.
we have no neighbors across the street.

When we moved in we met people when we were outside doing stuff. No one rang our bell or anything. Our neighbors are so nice! We have new neighbors who are young and dont seem that friendly. They are hermits and never leave the house!

The day we closed and went to the house both sets of neighbors came over and introduced themselves. We just recently got new neighbors and we went over and introduced ourselves to them.

those crazy spring storms had flooded everyone's basement just prior to us moving in, so everyone in the neighborhood was congregating and asking about how much water, could they borrow the pump, did anything get ruin, etc. we just got sorta scooped up in the convo. people were really nice about welcoming us.

Most of our neighbors came by to introduce themselves while we were still moving in. Some brought wine or cookies and stuff. It was really nice. There were a lot of folks that we actually didn't 'formally' meet until the last year or so - a lot of waves and friendly greetings as we went by or whatever.
When we had a new neighbor move in around the corner, I brought them some bread. I guess I kind of look at it as the 'old timers' job to welcome the new folks!

All of our neighbors came over to us. All of them so nice!
We are friendly with 7 houses on our block. The other 4 houses just still wave...we dont know names though or really chat with them. we have been here for 3 years now.
I love my neighbors though. They are all awesome. We def lucked out
