Flood insurance
Do you need to get it?? How do you know if you need to get it?

I did, we're at high risk, bc we're across the street from like a 6 inch deep canal
Will the bank require us to get it?

We are only about 1,000 ft from the water, but are not in a flood zone. The bank did not require it, but we opted to get it anyway.
My theory is for under $400 a year, I would rather have it and not need, then need it and not have it. Also, supposedly if the flood maps are redrawn and your home is included in the future, it is much cheaper to have already had it, then scrambling to get it.

If it was under 400 a year, I wouldn't mind, we just got quoted 2K for the year

We are in south Seaford, less than 1,000 feet from water and were required to get it.
It's such a PITA, I swear I am never buying a house near the water again (unless it's mansion on a Caribbean Island)!
We use State Farm. When we first bought our home in 2003, we were with All State and then after like 3 or 4 years, they just dropped us out of the blue (I think this was after Katrina). They said they weren't insuring people on Long Island anymore. Then we went to State Farm.
I think we pay about $500 or $600 a year.
