I am so ******!
What do you think of this... Me and dh are 9 weeks and 4 days and dh thought it would be a good idea for me and him to add an up and down extension to his parents house. Okay so my boss who does construction says hes gonna charge a real good deal (which it was) 100k. 2 bdrms up 1 down and kitchen and den. ALL my FIL did was act like the small obnoxious a@@ he is and try to sell my boss life insurance (which he does for a living) and when my boss said 100k he said well we have to add in a new cesspool, a new door, a new oil tank , etc... we need tot ake out another 10k. So what should have been like 700 a month is going over 1000 and hes remodeling his own friggin house in the interim. He didnt have the $ before but now he needs to remodel using our $. I am just looking at future stuff. That is why I am livid! To live with in laws and aggravation to save a few pennies doesnt make alot of sense. Any thoughts??? I am thinking of la bonne vie in patchogue.

Re: I am so ******!
First off This might sound harsh but, unless my name was being added to the title, no way in hell my $$ would go to renovating someone else's house. What would protect you in case God forbid divorce or your IL's want you to move out? I rather put money down on the smallest condo on LI,but at least I'd know it was mine.
I think FIL thinks he's doing YOU a favor, thats why he's throwing in a few odd and ends,to the tune of thousands.
My hat goes off to the ppl that have the tolerance to live with their families,be it IL's or their own parents, this definetly wouldn't be me and DH knew that day1.

Re: I am so ******!
If it were me, I'd save myself a lot of heartache by moving out...do whatever you have to to avoid living with the inlaws. I know its a great deal for many people and makes sense financially...believe me, I would have considered it if needed. But nothing in the end is worth heartache. Seriously consider not going ahead with any renovation and find another place if thats feasible. good luck to you!!!

Re: I am so ******!
Seriously I would take the 100K and put it as a down payment on a small condo or something. Why put 100K into someone elses house?

Re: I am so ******!
I agree with the other posts...do not think about renovating your inlaws house. That just sounds like a problem waiting to happen. What if they decide to then sell the house...you are not on the deed and really have no legal say.
Take your money and get your own place or use it as a downpayment. You will be much happier and secure in the long run.
