CO's & permits

A friend of mine is about to put her house on the market & mentioned that before they do they have to get some COs/permits for major work that has been done over the past 50 years. She & her dh bought it from her ILs and she knows that some things def don't have them. Is there somewhere she can get a list of things that need COs/permits? She's Town of Babylon if that helps...

Oh and do you know if they'll get hit with any sort of fines or have to pay back-taxes on the work? Some things (like the garage conversion) were done in the 1960s when her dh's grandparents owned the house & would prob cost a fortune

when we purchased our house we had a missing CO for the conversion of garage to living space (village of Lindenhurst) they applied at the village had the inspector come in and tell them what they needed to do to bring it up to code then they got the CO. BUT they had permit on file just they never bothered to get it inspected until we were closing. We had to pay for it (a part of the agreement) and it was around 1K because of labor.

If they want to do this they will need to go to the town of babylon to the buildings department research what is on file and what is not, then discuss what they will need to bring up to CO standards.

The thing is once you tell them you need to complete the process otherwise you will be fined. This happened to my brother in law who applied for co's for his decking and then lost his job so he just finished it two years later and has numerous fines.

I dont know about obtaining them, but they will be needed. From the time our house was built until we bought it 2-3 homeowners later - there were THREE extensions done to it. We have CO's for all three.
