Very stupid question about a toilet
Please, please don't laugh at me. I can just wait to ask DH when he gets home, but that's a long time from now HAHA.
For the past few days, our toilet will flush, and then make that noise from the back part of the toilet as if its just filling up with water, but that sound lasts a good few hours. When you pick the lid up, there is basically no water in it... DH does something to it to make the water fill up and all that.. thank goodness it doesn't do that when he's not home. But it's been doing that for quite some time... so in all seriousness, does that mean we need a new toilet?? We rent, so I'll bring it up to our landlord and such if so, but I ccan't stand that constant running water sound...

it sounds like your toilet is "running"
sometimes fiddling with the handling will stop the running. I usually put mine in the "up" position and it does the trick.
it will eventually need to be further investigated for plumbing issues.

The rubber stopper that covers the drain hole in the tank is not sitting tight so water continues to slowly trickle out and the tank runs to re-fill.
You can purchase the new inner workings if necessary and replace them. For a short term fix, try jiggling the handle to see if that's enough to re-seat the stopper. If that doesn't do it, take the top off and move it into place. Sometimes you just need an adjustment on the chain (it might have gotten twisted or have a kink in it so it's not dropping down far enough)

You need a new rubber stopper!!! This happened to us, it is an easy fix. Will probably cost around $20 bucks to fix.

I agree this happens on our old toilet. But I have to say we had problems recently with both toilets and I think it is because it is so hot and so many people are using water.

I just have to find a way to use the word "BALLCOCK"!
I don't know if you need one, but I used to date a plumbing supplier. It is used to help regulate water in a toilet.
BALLCOCK. Ya can't ban that. It's a legitimate plumbing supply and HERE IT IS:
