Gaining weight while TTC
So I had a family function yesterday and someone came up to me and patted my stomach and said "Oh wow your pregnant!" so I snapped, "Nope, just fat but thanks for reminding me" I mean im not a heavy girl to begin with, but yes ive gained maybe 10-15lbs in the last year and I am aware of it.
Now I know I gained some weight since we started trying. I started cutting down my exercise routine and honestly im at the point where I dont exercise as much anymore. I dont know why but I guess in the back of my mind im afraid I am going to "shake something loose" even though I know its not true. I also had to quit my gym membership to save money for our future LO.
I know i have also been indulging in things that I know I will have to give up for 9 months like alcohol which I know packs on the pounds for me. Plus its summer and theres a BBQ like every other day.
I mean I am not a heavy girl and yes I tend to gain weight in my boobs and stomach first which makes it even worse. According to BMI I am in a normal weight range for my age and height so I know the little weight gain is not going to hurt a future baby. But for someone to say your pregnant when your not and that you have been trying for months is soooo hard.
Please tell me I am not alone

Yes I am going through to same thing. I gained 10-15lb after getting married and all I heard was "When are you due?" "Yay your pregant!" and these were amongst the nicer comments. I said a couple nasty things and lost a *couple* pounds so I don't hear it as much but it is HURTFUL and OBNOXIOUS so i know how you feel.

Re: Gaining weight while TTC
Got married over a year ago so maybe thats why. Maybe people are expecting me to be preggo now?
A few months after being married I got the questions, "So when are you going to have babies" but not someone who just outright patted my stomach and said, "Oh your pregnant!"
I have body image issues so thats what makes it worse. My sister tried to calm me down (she doesnt know we are TTC) and told me to put on her pants and then I would feel better lol.

Some people are sooooooooo rude!
I never ask if someone is pregnant unless it is completely obvious (like when they are 8m pregnant).

Re: Gaining weight while TTC
That's so rude! I totally feel for you.
Someone actually made me cry at work a few months ago, before we were ttc. I'm a healthy weight but I'm lactose intolerant and if I eat, like, a cookie my pants won't fit the next day - I get so bloated. I'm so sensitive about it. One of my students asked me if I was pregnant and I told him, "Never ask a woman that question unless you are 100% sure of the answer." Two days later, I was wearing a flowy top and one of my colleagues said, "Oh my God, you're pregnant!" To which I responded, "No, I'm not." And he persisted: "Are you in the first trimester and just not telling anyone? I won't tell!" I again told him that I'm not, and he said it again! Finally I just told him, "Look, I'm not pregnant, I'm just getting fatter, apparently. Thanks for pointing it out." And as I re-told the story to another teacher over lunch, I started crying.
But like I said, this was before ttc. I was only upset that I looked so fat - if it happened now I'd be upset about that, PLUS it's like rubbing it in that you're not pg yet. People can be so insensitive.

But i am a stress eater and TTC for over 9 months - i really have been using food to feel better (though i never really feel better )

That's exactly why I cut back on the gym! I get nervous I will mess something up. AND I declare AF week off since it's not fair that she showed and I hate her!
I am on the thinner side but have gained a few pounds (5) over the past year. I tend to wear fitted clothes at work and when I wear a loose top or dress I definitely get more looks. I counter people's thoughts by wearing a more fitted outfit the next day!

I don't know how anyone could have the nerve to ask or presume such a thing outloud. If a guy ever said that to me and I wasn't pregnant, I'd slap 'em! And if it was a girl who said that, I would have said back, "Oh, how funny! I was going to ask you the same thing!" We ARE human. We are allowed to gain a few pounds.

Re: Gaining weight while TTC
I am very self conscious about this too. Although I am pretty thin and no one has said anything to me, I have def put on weight in my middle. I quit smoking a year ago so that's pretty much where that is coming from. I used to have a flat stomach but lately its gotten a bit softer and it depresses me bc sometimes I feel like depending on the day, bloat, and what I'm wearing - it could easily be mistaken for a bump.
ETA - even though I still exercise regularly, I have pretty much stuck to only cardio. I'm so nervous about doing any core work even though everywhere I ask I'm told its totally fine. I just don't want to take any chances.

Re: Gaining weight while TTC
i get this all the time too...i'm a petite girl and people ALWAYS say "oh you're pregnant!" or "congratulations!" or "Good luck"...it kills me even more after my miscarriage.
I have found myself in a fitness rut. ever since the miscarriage I have not worried about exercise saying to myself "oh you're gonna get pregnant ASAP so why bother doing crunches now?" except it's been 4 months since my MC and here I am still not preggo but sporting a pouch.
it pisses me off that people have the balls to say that. especally bc right now i work with plus size women...and i can't believe that women who struggle with weight/ body issues themselves have the nerve to ask me if i'm pregnant! I weight 125 lbs. for crying out loud!
last time a lady asked me if i had a baby bump i said "no actually it's a food bump...thanks though!"
