This is what I've been reduced to...
...shopping online for mailboxes and debating if it is worth it to install a slot in the door instead. This past week just aged me 10 years.

Definitely get the slot. I grew up with one - so much better than the dinky mailbox we have. I really want to install one.

definitely the slot! when we moved into our place we had that and a small mailbox, but our mailman never used to close our mailbox so our mail always got messed up- now no problems

get a mail box. we hate the mail slot we have and can't wait to get a new door to get rid of it. its a heat and ac killer in the winter/summer, and our mail man tries to shove EVERYTHING through it even if the envelope/package is clearly too big for it. needless to say, we've had photos ruined amongst other things.
the mail box is worth it!

I got a nice large heavy dut Keystone one for outside AND I got a slot put in our new door for times when we go away and I want the mail to come straight into the house. We used to always get the mail through the door with our old door, but this was before I had a dog who liked to shred the mail.

 I was thinking the same thing. I vote for a mailbox. Just get a larger one that you like and that can handle larger packages. GL!

I would get the mailbox. It's bigger and most new ones come with an extra slot for newspapers, so bulky mail items can be put in here as well as newspapers when its raining/snowing.
Also, think about the poor postman who would have to walk up to the door and place your mail in a slot when its raining or snowing....

I vote for a mailbox as well. We had a mailslot in our garden coop in Queens and the mailbox is just so much neater. The force with shich the mailman would shove stuff in the slot at times would leave maill all over the place.

Looks like its gonna have to be a mailbox. The front door is a composite door and we are NOT replacing it because it is in good condition.
