My husband and his desire to grill...
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Get a can of gas like everyone else and call it a day.

Not bad - when I inquired about running gas so I could convert the stove in the kitchen is was in the neighborhood of $36,000. They suggested I go door to door and see if I could get other neighbors interested in converting to share the cost.

I suppose it isnt in the grand scheme of things, but it would probably be a better bet to establish myself as a good neighbor first than to ask people for money right off the bat.

My DH wants to do this - connect grill to gas line. We already have gas service to the house. Was you estimate for gas to the house or does the house already have it and that was the cost?

For gas to the house from the closest location that already has it.
I suppose I should have included that we need to do a roof, siding, solar panels (which he is very passionate about), gutting a basement which will include a bathroom and a whole host of other things. Gas is just not at the top of the priority list at that price for a burger. Someday, it will happen. Just not as soon as we move in with all of the other stuff we need.

That will probably be one of your best decisions EVER.
I'm with your DH!!!! I plan on doing the same thing and I had to convince my husband... when we ran the gas line I told my DH "we're running it to the BBQ once we design our layout".

The way I cook, you NEED a good bathroom after a burger. Trust me.

It's laughable.

I am not surprised by $8K
It cost me $5K to convert to gas. To get the gas to my house from the street, includind all the labor to connect gas from outside to inside the house and a new boiler.
But to add have my stove connected to it (although ONLY 3.5 feet from boiler) it would have been $1500 additional.

If the house was 100% move in ready or brand new, I am sure we would do it. Its just that we have multiple projects that will consume tens of thousands of dollars so it was comical to us.
DH was like "Well you'll just have to get used to cooking with electric in the house."
Um I grew up with electric for over 25 years - I'll adjust. Just break out the George Foreman sweetie.
