All these posts about dormers has me thinking....
approximately how much is it to do?
The back of our wide line cape is dormered already. DH and I were thinking in the future to dormer the front. There is already a full bathroom and 3 bedrooms upstairs. And I know that we wouldn't want a straight dormer...meaning I don't want the front of the house to look like a square...I would want at least one peak in the center and possibly 2 smaller peaks (not sure if that makes a $$ difference).
So has anyone done this recently or are pricing out right now? I honestly have no clue how much it would be. (We live in Massapequa, in case that makes a differnece). TIA!!

Re: All these posts about dormers has me thinking....
I will explain to you what was explained to me and it made good sense.
It cost more to add new to old. Less supplies but more labor.
You also have to realize you are going to change the roof design. Can your house support a new roof design?
Architects are not cheap Mine cost 4500 when all said and done.
I had a 20 x 24 space. Made it a 20 x 40 space. So the difference is only 16 x 20 or 320 sqft.
On average around 175 sqft complete =56,000 (175x320)
My cost were based on 800 sqft all new because we had to change the roof and needed additional footings and support 800x175= 140,000
Big difference.
I hope I didn't confuse you
