Those who moved with DC's
ok, how much of a total PITA is it?
Any tips to share?? I am dreading everything!
I have about 2 months til we move and we have no where to really store boxes since we are in an apt. We are moving about an hour away-- from city to burbs, and I gotta also manage work being done in the house, while taking care of everything here. DH will be of little to no help because he has been constantly busy at work and I have been handling 98% of everything house related.
Should I start drinking now?

Re: Those who moved with DC's
I was in an almost identical situation. We moved with a newborn from the city to the burbs. We also had about 2 months to get some work done - painting, floors, etc. before we actually moved in.
My biggest advice would be to take any help you can get - especially babysitting help! It was a lot easier to deal with the workers, particularly when work was being done, without DS. I would either drop him off at my mom's or my ILs would come to the city to watch him. Or, if I was meeting with someone just to get quotes, I would have someone meet me at my house to watch DS.
My other advice is that when you need to meet with contractors/painters/etc. to get quotes, schedule them all on the same day - one right after the other! It's a lot easier that way and you don't have to make a lot of trips up to the house. I would set aside a morning or an afternoon and get as many appointments as you can. Again, I would get a babysitter for this!!
I'll try to think of some more tips!!

Re: Those who moved with DC's
We just moved from the city to the burbs about a month ago. Packing wasn't too terrible, I did most of it on my own while dh was at work. We had boxes stored in one area of our apartment and everything was really organized which helped.
We are doing a ton of renovations right now which isn't fun, ds is 10 mo. and on the move. We had planned to do most of the work before we moved in but our closing was delayed 6 weeks beyond our contract deadline. We closed on a Monday, moved in on a Saturday and the work started the next Monday. I would enlist the help of anyone who offers to babysit. I'm lucky I have some family nearby who have been able to watch ds frequently, this has been a life saver!
Oh, and drinking helps too

I'll be moving with a 22 month old and one in my belly. Drinking is not an option and I picked the wrong time to stop sniffing glue. I am seriously not looking forward to this move in any way shape or form.

Once we get our place inspected here (we are in contract, but the inspection happens after), I am gonna start.
One box a day.

Re: Those who moved with DC's
We moved quite a few times already back and forth to SC and out east.
It was a pain. I felt like I couldn't entertain the kids. DH and I both wanted to unpack and do things, but only one of us could unless we had a family member come over and help out with the kids.

Re: Those who moved with DC's
Complete PITA but just try not to think too far ahead and "how will I ever get this done" because you will! We moved with a 2 and 3 year old and it was challenging at times. Finding time to pack when your day is already jam packed because of the kids is hard, but like you said, one box at a time. We moved into in laws house for a few months before our new house, which helped slightly with the transition, but once we got here it was all good. Its the stress of thinking of finding the time to do everything and dealing with deadlines.

Re: Those who moved with DC's
We bought and moved 5 months later.
My son spent a lot of time in a playpen and blocked off in areas at the new place. I also used my mom, MIL, SIL and dad to babysit whenever I needed to get things done. It was extremely stressful and a lot of work but it had to be done.

Re: Those who moved with DC's
We had the same scenario except my DS was a little younger (13/14 months) and I was 9 months pg.
We used a POD and it was the thing for us. Besides moving a little over an hour away we were also moving from NY to NJ and I remember it being very expensive since it out of state
Packing was a PITA but I did it and I started packing 2 or 3 months before. I just left the boxes in that particular room but in the corner.
Maybe get a babysitter if she really gives you a hard time and have the babysitter take her to the park or could you drop her off at your parents one weekend for the whole weekend and you guys just pack your butts off?

Re: Those who moved with DC's
We'll be moving with a 26 month old and either me due with twins, or newborn twins! Hoping we close before the babies are born so we can at least get their room and our bedrooms ready. So far we've been lucky because my BIL has a huge empty garage where we've been slowly packing and storing our boxes. A lot of Landon's toys and things are already pack and at BILs and he keeps asking for them... oh well! We're only moving about 15 minutes away though. I guess I have no advice except to say I feel your pain!
