Ladies who do not O on their own

I found myself to be in a place where I have never thought I would be- suddenly not ovulating on my own for the last 2 months. I have no idea why it is happening, what's causing it and how to deal with it. We are only TTC'ing for 3 months ( 2 of which are no o, so no chance), and I know it is early and you are supposed to wait and try.. But what am I trying for if there is no ovulation? How long should I wait before going to RE? Just confused and upset..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Input is appreciated.

Just need to get a few things straight.... you DID ovulate your first month TTC three months ago? Were you previously on the pill?

I don't ovulate on my own but I have PCOS. I ended up needing to go to an RE for medications that caused me to develop follies and ovulate. If you see you're not ovulating, you may want to give a call in to your OB to see what they suggest. This is what I did at first. When they didn't take me seriously, that's when I moved to an RE. I knew I had problems because I was told back 10 years ago I probably had PCOS but my gyn didn't even want to know about that or look at my charts, etc Chat Icon Seeing an RE was a completely different world!!

I think if you have no history of issues till now, you might just want to call your gyn to ask what they suggest as a next step. I would def inquire about this though and not let it go. No sense in wasting time!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ladies who do not O on their own

For the first two months I was temping, my chart didn't show me Oing. The third month, this month, I Oed on my own. I don't know why I didn't O on my own those two months or if this month is a fluke or what but I am hoping that I do O regularly from now on. I would say it would certainly make sense to talk to your doctor and show them your charts and see if there is any testing or anything that they think needs to be done.

Good luck!!!

I have never ovulated on my own... I have PCOS and have had absent periods since I was 13 years old. They medicated me with BCP for nearly 10 years and I finally stopped last year when we wanted to TTC.

Have you always had regular cycles? Sometimes the stress of TTC can play tricks on your body and throw it off. I would definitely sit down with your GYN to see if he can recommend a next step for you. If you feel that you aren't getting the answers you are looking for, definitely move on to a RE. Once you have solid answers, you will be able to move forward with a plan.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i agree with pennycat, if you KNOW you arent ovulating then try your ob/gyn first, but if they tell you to just "wait it out" or dont take you seriously, go directly to an RE so you can get a real diagnoses. i was TTC with an ob/gyn for 6 months, only 1 of which did i actually ovulate. i then decided to switch to an RE when my ob/gyn handed me clomid, almost no instruction, and shoved me out the door. i ended up getting diagnosed with PCOS and i was never going to ovulate with clomid alone, and had to go on to injectables almost immediately. i havent gone back or looked back to the ob/gyn since.

good luck!! feel free to FM if you have any questions!!

The first month we were TTC, I did not use OPKs, but I am pretty sure I O'd late in the cycle ( around 25 day of cycle of 33 days). I have never been on a pill. My cycles were regular, but long, around 37-40 days ). The way I know I did not o these 2 last cycles is b/c :1) i had a break through brown spotting (mid cycle) and at the time AF was supposed to arrive, I would get a light, painless bleeding ( which is very uncommon for me), plus digital OPKs showed no rise in LH. Ugh..Thank you for taking time to answer my questions!Chat Icon

Re: Ladies who do not O on their own

Even though I think highly of my ob gyn as an obstetricain, he is sub par when it comes to fertility related questions. When I tried to ask him about this situation, he told me to relax, do not stress and enjoy TTC.Chat Icon easier said than doneChat Icon he is no help, really.

If I go to RE, should I lie to them and tell them we are TTC for a year?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My OB/GYN was the same exact way. Although he is an amazing doctor, he just wasn't able to help me in that department. I'd recommend moving on to an RE.. I guarantee that you will feel 100% better about everything the second you leave your first appointment. I would be 100% honest. No need to lie! Chat Icon

no need to lie. you should never lie to your doctors - it just impeeds their ability to get the whole picture. i went to an RE after 6 months of TTC. if you know you aren't ovulating you dont have to be TTC for any amount of time to "qualify" to go to an RE. just make the appointment and tell them why you are there and let them be the detectives and diagnosticians.

yes.. please don't lie

if you know for sure you're not ovulating on your own, then you should speak to your gyn about it. If you feel like they're not taking you seriously then go ahead and contact an RE
But, if you usually ovulate on your own and for some reason the past two months you didn't.. then maybe it was just due to stress.
i know our natural instinct is to be impatient and want to get things fixed right away.. but your body might just be regulating itself. I had a few months where i didn't get a Chat Icon but all others months i did..

good luck! Chat Icon
