New Here with ?? about Clomid

Hi guys, I've been lurking the past couple of months and have really learned alot from you guys. Thanks.
However, I have a question regarding Clomid, this is my first month on it and my Dr. said the first month we'll take it and see what happens without any further testing or anything. He said the 2nd month will be more aggressive. He prescribed 100 mg on cycle days 3 - 5. Now I'm very regular and have never had any problems with my cycle which is usually 28 days. I didn't use an OPK so I don't know the exact day that I ovulated but I think it might have been on day 14 or 15. Anyway for the past week I've had cramps on and off. I also keep getting a feeling that AF is here but when I run to the bathroom it's nothing and I've been peeing quite a bit. Since yesterday the cramps have been a bit stronger and my breasts are very sore. I tested BFN on what I thought was DPO 12 and DPO 16. Could the Clomid have changed my cycle and be causing these symptoms? I am on cycle day 30 right now so I'm only two days late.

I've taken Clomid a few times and never had any symptoms like what you're describing. In fact, I never had any symptoms at all. They sound like possible pregnancy symptoms though so good luck with that!

I do have one major concern though. Your doctor should NOT be prescribing Clomid without first testing you to see what the problem is. I get so angry with doctors who use Clomid as a catch all solution to fertility problems. How could you possibly prescribe a medication to someone to fix a problem that you know NOTHING about, or if there is even a problem to begin with. It is ridiculous. You should have had blood work, a sono, a semen analysis for your DH, etc. all BEFORE taking anything. The problem might not even be you, it could be your DH. This is why a GOOD doctor will figure out what is wrong BEFORE prescribing any course of treatment, Clomid or otherwise.

Aside from that, you should be monitored VERY closely while on Clomid. You should have blood work and a baseline sono to measure the lining of your uterus and to see what is going on with your follies. You should have sonos and blood work every few days throughout the Clomid cycle to make sure you're responding well to the medication. I also don't know why he started you on 100mg. Most RE's, my included, start with the lowest possible dose first and see if you respond with that. Anyway, the point is you should be monitored. For all you know your ovaries are hyperstimulated right now which is a side effect of Clomid which is why you need to be monitored. Such a failing when a doctor gives you medicine, especially fertility meds, and sends you on your way.

Anyway, if all you're seeing is your OB/GYN I HIGHLY recommend going to see an RE who is expertly trained in fertility issues as opposed to any old OB/GYN with very limited knowledge. BEST thing I ever did was go to my RE. BEST, BEST thing!! Good luck!

If you're not being monitored by the dr with the clomid (which you really should be) or temping or even using OPKs, there's no way to know for sure when you O'd. You might have O'd a few days later than you thought, which would make your cycle longer. It could be too early to see a BFP! Lots of

However, if you go on clomid next cycle, I'd demand that your doctor monitor you through blood work and sonograms. And if he/she won't, consider seeing an RE.

I'm sorry I should have been more specific. I am seeing an RE and he did run all of the necessary tests. I had an HSG done, a SONO, my husband was tested and everything was good. So it may just be my age, I"m 36. I do agree with you that my doctor should have monitored me when he put me on the Clomid, I was a bit surprised that he didn't and if it's not successful this month I feel like we wasted time.
