Technical Question

ok so lets say you bd on sunday and your egg drops on Monday. Does your egg get fertilized right away?

Pretty much what I am asking is when the sperm and the egg get together what happens and what is the time frame?

If the sperm gets to the egg on Monday does it start fertilizing right away?

Re: Technical Question

i think it happens really fast once the sperm penetrates the egg. i read in "what to expect before you're expecting" that it only takes like an HOUR if the sperm is successful in getting to the egg and all of that! i could be wrong, but i THINK that's what i read!

Re: Technical Question

Sort of. My understanding is the surviving sperm try to break through the outer shell around the egg. If one breaks through, the embryo travels from the fallopin tubes to implant somewher in the uterus. This can take a few days, and this is why pregnancy tests take a while to come up positive.

oh, i think you are right! i thought she was asking how long the egg takes to be fertilized, which i think is quick, but then it does take a few days to travel to the uterus. it's so confusing! :) :)
