WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
Here's the deal. My stylist that I have been going to for about 2 years now and LOVE jumped ship along with pretty much all the other stylists to go to another salon.
Now the salon she used to work at is offering 50% off all services until September.
Should I continue going to my stylist (who works at a salon across the street from the other one) or get the discount?
I am leaning towards staying with my stylist - but am I crazy for not geting the 50% off? That's a lot of money for color and a cut!

If you take the discount and don't like the stylist and they mess up, you would wish you had paid full price to get what you want....

If you LOVE your stylist then I would follow them. My stylist left her old salon and they send me coupons for 50% off but I followed her to her new salon and then gave me a discount on my first two visits there as a new client.

It depends on how good the salon is. if it's a nice salon, chances are any stylist will be good. It is a risk, but you could end up happier!

I would follow my stylist but I LOVE her more than any other stylist I have been to.... I guess it depends on how much you love the job they do!

This happened to me as well..so far, she's honored the discount I was offered by her old salon..

I have never found I stylist I truly loved, so I would stick with your stylist! I would rather pay full price for a guaranteed great haircut, than half price for a potentially bad haircut! You'll be kicking yourself until it grows out!

I love the woman who cuts my hair so I'd follow her (although she is the owner in my case )

Re: WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
Tapestry and Off 7th.
I go there.
I had the same thing happen.
I'm sticking with my stylist.
50% off a sucky haircut is, to me, a total waste of money.
Paying full price for something I'm happy with makes it worth every penny. Plus, I got 15% off the first time I went to the new salon (about two weeks ago) so that was cool.
Her haircuts are just too good!
Then, once I heard why everyone jumped ship and how the owner there was treating the stylists and not giving them anywhere near their fair share of money I felt like I had really done the right thing, for the workers.
HTH!!

really, I go there too. I always see different people every time any since my hair is pretty easy (usually just trims, no color).

Re: WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
I have always followed hairdressers and had a fear of trying new ones. I only recently ventured to try someone new, based on an LIF recommendation. Before that my last change was to someone whose haircuts I had seen on dozens of people over many years. If you know anything about someone at the salon that is offering 50% off, then maybe.

Re: WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
Thanks everyone! I am going to stick with my stylist. I have very difficult hair - very thick and wavy. She has never given me a cut I didn't like. Plus, since pretty much all the stylist at the old place went to the new place I am little wary of who they would have hired as replacements.
And then when DaniRella gave me the lowdown on why they all left, I think that sealed the deal!

You'll be so happy. I really liked the new place and the new experience. I mean, if it was like 100 dollars vs. 50 or something I'd say OK but I think it came out to like 35 bucks or something - maybe even less. So, the difference was so small. Not worth the risk.
Oh and your stylist, when you go, can probably better explain what happened at the old place and what the manager was doing. It was just a matter of greed and not appreciating the stylists. I personally think styling hair is a true talent - it is like an art. While you can learn techniques, I think a lot of them are born with a certain amount of natural talent, KWIM? You just can't put a price on that - which is why their work should be rewarded accordingly.
GL! Enjoy!

Re: WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
My hair is really easy to cut and I don't dye it--so I would go where it is cheapest--that is what I do.
I usually go to my mom's friend, but she only does saturday at her home, so if I cant make it on Saturday I go where the price is right...
If I dyed my hair, had hair that was "tricky" like thick or curly I might feel different..

I did this. I told my stylist about the discount they were offering and the new salon honored it.

Re: WWYD? Loyalty to stylist, or discount at salon?
I stayed with the salon.. i appreciate the 50% off but to tell you the truth i probably wouldn't have left anyway. My hair is pretty straight forward and you can't screw it up.. It's black and i get a single process that i could probably do myself and anyone can do a trim. In fact... Claudia is doing my brazilian straighteining at the salon for 175.. (50 %) on saturday! can't wait!!!!
Plus i don't really care about the soap opera BS that went down in the salon. It's none of my business. Where i work has a sh&tty manager too who doesn't appreciate us. We all don't up and walk out and leave our "customers" disappointed.. I think it was really tacky how the stylist all up and left like that.
