WWYD? Sweater Ruined at Salon
Last night, I went to have my roots touched up and a hair cut. When the assistant was finished washing my hair, she noticed that my back got very wet (I never felt it) and was apologizing profusely. I told her it was not a problem, not to worry.
So I have my hair cut and blown. I go home and when I took my sweater off, the whole back has a huge brownish stain from the watered down dye (the sweater is white by the way. I know, stupid as I shouldn't have worn white).
I don't know what to do. I don't want to get the girl in any kind of trouble, but what if the stain doesn't come out while cleaning it? I bought the sweater last year at Ann Taylor (so I can't get another exactly like it) and I paid about $60 for it.
Is it my fault for wearing a white sweater and that I was taking a risk wearing it? I had a towel and the cape type thingy they make you put on over it. WWYD?

Whenever I've had my hair done I've worn crappy shirts. But when I've gotten to the salon, they make my take it off anyway and give me a robe. I think part of the blame is yours, sorry.

Re: WWYD? Sweater Ruined at Salon
I think you can get them to give you $ for it (or a GC to the salon or SOMETHING).. although you may be getting the girl who washed your hair in trouble.
I have worked in salons both as a hairdresser and as an assistant (washing and what not) and some people would FLIP if you got them wet like that. You are not supposed to be getting the person wet at all. While wearing a white shirt probably wasn't the best idea on your part.. she should have been WAY more careful.

I always take of my nice shirt (because I usually go after work) and either just wear my cami with the gown over it or bring an old tshirt in my purse to put on instead.

If it meant the girl would get into trouble, I will never say anything. I've been going to this salon for years and she's been there for as long as I'm going. Plus, I think she works harder and does more than my stylist/colorist.
I guess, this will just be a lesson not to wear anything nice to the salon next time.

In that case.. I agree, don't say anything.. she will most likely get in trouble if they had to give you $ back.

Re: WWYD? Sweater Ruined at Salon
my salon has signs that says "gown provided for your protection not responsible for damage to clothing"
so I would assume I was out of luck

I used to work at a hair salon. That isn't supposed to happen. The few times it did, we gave the customer money to replace the item.

I never wear nice clothes when I get my hair colored. There is always a risk that this can happen. I would take it as a lesson learned and not say anything.

Tough call......I would be pizzed, but after hearing the back story I would not say anything. IF it was a newer person or somebody that didn't care as much I would call and say something. Question.....were you wearing a coat? If you weren't how did anybody NOT notice the stain? Iw ould take it to the dry cleaners and see if they can do anything to help.

I never wear nice clothes to the salon. Yes it is her fault that isnt suppose to happen. When I go they put towels into the next of the gown to prevent that. But I don't think it is their responsibility to replace it.
Sorry.

Same. I will wear an old tshirt or tank under a sweater or top and remove the top layer because even with the gown color always seems to drip.

Re: WWYD? Sweater Ruined at Salon
They did put a towel inside, covering my neck/shoulders and then a gown over that. What really annoyed me was after my hair was blown and I was walking to the desk to pay, no one noticed the stain on the back of my sweater? It was hard to miss. And normally do not wear anything nice and/or expensive to the salon, however, I was running very late (it was an after work appt.) so I had no time to change and forgot to take it off when I got there.
