So yeah, I feel like it was a BUST! I did not learn anyhting I don't already know and felt like none of the ladies did their research. They had not a clue what they were talking about. Barbara actually asked one of the guests about her 2.5 miscarriges!? Turns out she was reading the card wrong and it said she was married for 2.5 years. And Joy said an ectopic pregnancy is one in which the egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube. NO, fertilization always takes place in the fallopian tubes. An ectopic pregnancy is one where the embryo IMPLANTS outside the uterus, often but not always in the fallopian tubes.

We should have all gone on and taught them a thing or two!Chat Icon

Yeah the episode was a bust. The only thing I learned was the Barbara Walters had three miscarriages and that the Rancic's are struggling with infertility. I actually thought they were very rude to Bill and Juliana. I'm sure they have a lot more issues than Juliana just needing to gain 5 more pounds.

There was a lot of tension with that interview. I sort of felt like they were attacking them, all asking questions at once. Although I do find it odd that she wants a baby so badly but isn't willing to gain 10lbs.

Now I need to see it. I heard about the weight gain thing. While it does sound mighty selfish, she can have an actual problem (not that I'm trying to spread internet rumors that she has an eating disorder Chat Icon ). But clearly she has an irrational fear of gaining weight if she won't gain a measly 5-10lbs to make her dreams come true. And if she's very restrictive with her diet, besides being underweight, she can be lacking nutrients vital for fertility. I hope she can get past this, because speaking form experience (dealt eating/body issues when younger), that is no way to live!

ETA: Did not see the show, so might be speaking out of my a$$ about her reluctance to gain weightChat Icon Just saying, it might be more than vanity!

It sounds like she is trying to gain some more weight. She was probably hoping that it would happen with just the extra 5 and not the extra 10 pounds. Now that it hasn't happened I guess she should try to put on a few more pounds. I just wish them all the best.

Walters is so out of date with her information she definitley should have NOT been doing that interview with the two ladies and one husband. She practically screwed up that whole segment. I was hysterical when she actually asked the lady whats does 2.5 miscarriages mean. She needs to retire Chat Icon

Very true, and whether she is or isn't willing to gain the weight no one should have to deal with infertility.

DH said if that were us being interviewed by Walters that he would have walked off when she asked about the 2.5 miscarriges.

From what she said it sounds like it's pressure due to the industry she works in. But who knows, there's such a stigma around eating disorders most people don't talk about it openly and when they do it's after the fact. Your'e 100% right though living with an eating disorder is no way to live. I almost lost my younger sister to anorexia, when she was at her worst I don't even know you could call it living.

I agree. What a waste of time. I hate that show in general because all they do is constantly talk over each other. They never let the guests speak. They were constantly interrupting the doctor in the beginning of the show, they were criticizing Julianna Rancic for being too thin, and above all they sounded like total uneducated idiots. What stood out was idiot Sherri "claiming" that for one IUI and one IVF and "some pills" (as she called them) it cost her $30-40K!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Ummm............where exactly was she being treated??? She is so full of cr@p!! NO way it cost that much..........she sounded like a moron.

Ohhh I almsot forgot about Sherri's gross overestimation! As soon as she said it I turned to DH and said "She's lying". At BEST I would say what she had cost $15k-$20k depending on where she was treated. And even that is a VERY high estimate.

I'm watching it right now and I'm already annoyed and I'm only 5 minutes in...

They are all idiots and are SO insensitive! I'm watching Joy talk about her ectopic pregnancy and how do you compare that to have sex in church!?

ETS: I just watched the first segment with the doctor, and seriously, they didn't even let him speak!!!! I'm sorry but I've never really watched this show before, but they are all just so ignorant and all they do is talk over eachother. Jeeeez people! LOL

Re: The View

I watched it last night when I got home. I have mixed feelings about it. I think it was great that they dedicated an entire show to infertility because I think a lot of people are ignorant to the fact that so many couples deal with this issue.

With that being said, the women of the View really need to get their acts together. Their schtick is getting old. All they do is talk over each other and insult guests. They had a prominent fertility doctor on and he barely got a word in edgewise. The interview with Giuliana and Bill was pointless. All they focused on was her weight. Yes, the girl needs to gain some weight, but that's her issue.

The interview I found most disturbing was Barbara's with the 47 year old. The woman is obviously having a tough time. She's 47 and still hasn't given up her dream of getting preggo. I felt that Barbara was trying insinuate that this woman was less of a person because she didn't want to adopt. You know what, it's her decision. She said she couldn't wrap her head around adoption. That's her decision. Yes, we know Barbara adopted her daughter. Yay for her. But it's a choice that each person or couple has to make for themselves. They surely shouldn't make a decision to adopt because a talk show host tells them to.

OK...rant over.

I thought they were horribly insensitive and looked completely uneducated. I would have slapped Whoopi, if I were Juliana. So condescending, ugh.

The segment where Walters interviewed the 47 yr old going through a divorce, really made me questions if she in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, not LOLing.

I agree pp, regarding them dedicating an entire show to infertility. So many people (including myself before it hit me) are so unaware of how COMMON this is. Bravo to the ladies, and men who share their story.
