really hitting a all time low on the house

We should of closed this week, but we haven't. Our painter who had to repair the exterior in order to pass inspection for the FHA loan is dragging his feet. He is all most done but has "family issues" and stalling on us.

Now my lawyer hasn't contacted me in a week and a half over the CO issue that popped up. I am thinking we are not closing until October (IF) we are lucky. I told the lawyer that we know the mayor (relative) and he will push our paper work through quickly since there is a permit on file and we just need an inspection but he still hasn't called/replied to me.

Why is it every step for some of us buying a home such a hassle? This has been the toughest thing on my husband and myself - we are beyond stressed and its very much affecting us. I can't live in our apartment which is half packed up ready to leave.

Any advice on how to move things along?

Otherwise sorry for the vent/rant.

Re: really hitting a all time low on the house

call your lawyer again. tell his assistant/secretary that if he doesn't call you back by Monday, you are coming in!

I used to work for a R.E. attorney adn sometimes they just don't call back.

As for the painter..I'd tell him you understand about his family issues, but he is causing you undue stress and that's not good business. Ask him if you need to get someone else to complete the work. Did you pay him already? Do you have a contract?

Re: really hitting a all time low on the house

it s-u-c-k-s

we've been there.....

deals falling through....

nothing but headaches....

even for us - we ended up with a bad appraisal 2 weeks before closing....the appraisal was less than what we were purchasing for....it was like nothing could be easy for us - it felt like there always had to be something going wrong or some kind of bad news.....and there were moments where we thought we would lose the house....

hang in there....it stinks but you will eventually get through it all.....

whether it's this house (praying for you it's this house and everything works out and you close soon!) or another house, the moment you walk in and it's yours all the aggravation you had to deal with will be worth it and it will be THAT MUCH SWEETER when it happens....trust me - i know!

ITA!

Jen, good luck in getting through the closing! We had tough times ourselves, but in the end it all works out.

Re: really hitting a all time low on the house

we just left a message on the painters phone and said he must finish or leave the paint at the house this weekend because he just delayed our final inspection and that is costing us precious time. He called and left us a message at home (knowing we wouldn't be there) and said he will be there tonight and tomorrow and finishing.

As far as the lawyer I am deff. going to call and demand a response. There is no reason he couldn't email me or call and say we are working on it just acknowledgment.

Tell the lawyer it is against his ethical obligation as an atty not to call you back. Attys can be sanctioned by the bar association for things like this....I have sat in many ethics classes and seminars and not returning call is always talked about.

Ugh, I am so sorry. Chat Icon

I know how you feel.

We were supposed to close on 7/1..and here we are on 9/11 and not in our house. Chat Icon We had CO issues as well which completely stalled EVERYTHING.

My advice, be agrressive with your attorney. Call every hour if you have to. You are paying him/her and they are working for you and not getting a return phone call is not acceptable.

I hope everything works out for you!!!! Chat Icon
