I consider it American Italian. Its not like authentic italian food. but many italian places in the states (even NY and Boston) are what I consider American Italian.

um no. no it's not.
olive garden, like most other chains, makes my skin peel off. 
I really just can't understand WHY people frequent chains..WAITING HOURS with buzzy things and alarms...when we live in a place that mom and pop restaurants are NOT that hard to find.
chains are the devil. like walmart. and david beckham

Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill...etc are really BAD representations of "Italian".
I agree with a pp who stated that we live in an area with plenty of mom and pop resturants that truly serve authentic ethinic cuisinie to limit yourself to going to places like these. JMO

Ok, here's my analogy-
Olive Garden is to Italian food what McDonald's is to a Steak house.
Yeah, you can get burgers at McDonalds, but they don't compare to a good burger from a steak house, ya know?
this is my feeling, i know its sit down and all but i call it italian fast food, i ate their once and couldn't choke down the sauce, i will never go there again, and i'm not full italian

RARELY ALMOST NEVER
go to Olive Garden.
So it depends on who you ask.
I would NEVER consider it an ITalian restaurant. EVER.

I am going to disagree slightly.
My Grandfather was first generation Italian and he LOVED the Olive Garden--b/c of the price and the portion, as he also lived thru the Great Depression.
But we all hated it

It's kind of like eating Pizza Hut or Dominoes. It is "fast food" Italian.
My problem is I like ALL food so I will eat almost anywhere-lol!!

Please... It's like someone posting... I dropped a jar of Pickles on my foot and boy does my foot hurt... Because it's a jar of Pickles you move it to Food & Recipes or do you move it to Health because the persons foot hurts...

Personally, I cannot stand the Olive Garden. I think the food is horrible. I hate how the Olive Garden in Times Square is always packed with tourists when there are authentic Italian restuarants a block away! If I wanted generic Italian food I would just make it myself.
