to shave or not to shave?

I'm going for a pedi today and my legs REALLY need to be shaved but I heard it's not good to shave your legs right before getting a pedi since you are more likely to get an infection or something. BUT it's a bit embarrassing how fuzzy my legs are! What do I do?!

I would shave but if you are really concerned don't worry about it - men get pedicures and they have hairy lags.

I never shave before. They use that exfoliant stuff and you will get a much better shave AFTER. They are already touching your feet, I'm sure unshaven legs aren't going to skeeve them. Chat Icon

Re: to shave or not to shave?

This reminds me of a time I scheduled an appointment to get a pedicure after work. While I was at work, I realized that I never shaved my legs. I debated if I should keep the appointment or not .. but figured ... eh, it won't be their first time seeing some peach fuzz Chat Icon Soooo off I went ...

I was hoping to just get in and out, and leave with nice polished toenails. Well, when the lady first started the pedicure and saw my leg, she looked at me with this horrified look and said "you shave?" .. The lady in the chair next to me looked over, as well as the nail tech doing her toes, and all of a sudden I felt like my hideously hairy legs were on display for the world to see. I responded with, "Well, I usually do" and that was the last that was said about it... but I sat there the rest of the time feeling humiliated!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It was TOTALLY unprofessional of that lady and I wouldn't let some hair on your legs stop you from going. NORMALLY the situation like the one I had would NOT happen!

Edited to add: I no longer go to that place! Chat Icon

This is a reason i always shave, i have been to some nail places, and they really have no tact sometimes. The things they have said to me and some friends would blow your mind. They dont realize they are being rude or what, but it can be really really embarassing especially if there are other patrons there as well

I never shave before - I like that they exfoliate and then I shave when I get home.

The moment I sit down I always just laugh and say "Sorry I didn't shave, I will be shaving later" and they always laugh and say "oh its not so bad"

Same here, plus its hurt more when I shave, burns! Who cares anyway, I'm sure no one will be staring at your legs that long to notice! LOL

Re: to shave or not to shave?

I would never go unshaved. There is nothing like the feeling of a really smooth leg after they are done massaging them! I wouldn't want to touch someone's hairy leg either lol

Re: to shave or not to shave?

I would NEVER shave just before going for a pedicure. There is just too many people using that "sink" every day, God only knows what kind of bacteria is in there(even if they clean it well)... Especially when they exfoliate freshly shaved legs, the skin will get irritated and the pores will open , which will let all kinds of bacteria in. I had the same issue the other day, I went in without shaving and I apologized for not doing so, but I told them I was growing hair for waxing(although, I have to say, I don't really have that much hair on my legs and it grows very slow).
Maybe you can shave and go next day or something.
P.S.
The reason I feel this way is bc my best friend got a horrible infection on her legs(not her feet) a while ago from a pedicure, at a very nice Manhattan nail salon.

Re: to shave or not to shave?

I never ever shave. EVER. I did once and the stuff they use on my legs to exfoliate burned me to tears. It was horrible.
