We want to be surprised. We figured there are only so many times in life you get a great surprise and no matter what the baby is.... as long as he or she is healthy that's all that matters. We can't wait to tell people...
It's a BOY and his name is...
It's a GIRL and her name is...

Same reason we want to be surprised!!

Re: Finding out the sex?

I know I was def the person who DIDNT want to find out but then I got pg and all that changed.

I think no matter what its still a surprise in a way...once that baby enters the world, you dont know what to expect, like what he/she looks like etc.

We didn't find out with the first, and we didn't find out with this one either. It is a great surprise. I didn't get too many clothes before the baby was born, but got tons afterwards. Also, at my shower, people were more apt to get us stuff off our registery and not a cute little pink or blue outfit. We wouldn't have registered for any of the big stuff in pink or blue anyway, b/c we knew we wanted more kids.

Re: Finding out the sex?

With my first I didnt find out....and I loved it. I loved everyone guessign what I was having adnd their reasoning why. I loved the back and forth between me and DH about what the baby was going to be. And that moment in the hospital was the most amazing of my life. When the Dr said Its a Boy, I was in love and I hadnt even seen him.
I am also a traditionalist and love knowing that that was the feeling my mom had when she had me and my brothers etc.

If we ever do have #2 I might find out simply to have had both types of expereince but I am not sure...

There was never any discussion, we wanted to know. No surprises. Besides, I'm a complete control freak and needed to know!

Ditto for me!

Re: Finding out the sex?

We also don't like yellows and greens. Plus, it was hard enough coming up with ONE name each time, there's no way we could come up with a Chat Icon name AND a Chat Icon name each pregnancy! Chat Icon

We also figured there are nothing but surprises with a newborn. Might as well get this surprise early..... Chat Icon

We didn't find out with DS and we're not finding out again.
The surprise at the end of it all is just awesome.
DH loved being the one going out and telling everyone "Its A ....."
He also enjoyed making all the phone calls.
As for the nursery we did Teddy Bears.
Simple and adorable for either boy or girl.Chat Icon

We don't want to know! I can't wait to have that moment when I give birth and find out what the sex is. I have friends that tell me that that moment was the best moment! Chat Icon

Re: Finding out the sex?

We are team Chat Icon

I have always wanted the surprise of finding out when we meet our little one in person.

Also, I don't want to have a ton of pink or blue stuff - I'm not into having a gender specific nursery because we do want more kids eventually, so I suppose I'm trying to be economical too Chat Icon

We don't do baby showers where I live so I don't have to worry about getting a lot of yellow or green clothing, the tradition here is to send gifts after the baby is born, so I'm not worried about that side of it.

I can definitely see the argument for finding out, but it's just not what we want.

I totally agree.

And like my mom pointed out to me, you have that surprise element for the first 20 weeks either way.

Re: Finding out the sex?

I honestly cannot wait to find out the sex. Neither can DH. I think I might be able to find out at my next appointment on the 27th when I'll be almost 15 weeks....

Dh and I did not find out. We did IVF and felt that there was no element of surprise really. I actually saw the embryos put back in, etc.,etc. We thought this would be a fun surprise and we are just so thankful and excited to be pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Finding out the sex?

I go down in LIF history as the person who named this guy Chat Icon Pat. Now I am not sure if everyone remembers his name. The funny part is that we did find out via amnio, but I do love the green guyChat Icon .

The surprise the day we found out was still a lot of fun. I always say that I had the physical ability to jump up and down when I found out, but I would not have if it was on the day he was born. As it turns out, he was whisked off to the NICU so fast that I would not have had a lot of time to enjoy my surprise. We did not even get to see his boy parts live until much later, so I am glad we saw them on many a sonogram!!!

Finding out for us was not really about planning. I would have enjoyed doing a gender neutral room just as much. It was about me always wanting as much information as I can get my hands on.

Re: Finding out the sex?

TTCer crashing because I had this conversation last night.

I am definitely finding out, because at our prenatal consult, we learned that due to my health issues I will have a C section with general, so I will not be alert during delivery.

But we might not tell anyone and play it off as Chat Icon

I guess we have to conceive first!

Re: Finding out the sex?

I LOVED keeping it a suprise... it was something I thought about the whole pregnancy, and also helped to distract me during the pains of labor, knowing I had a HUGE suprise coming.

There are plenty of really cute neutral clothing, and rest assured, once my daughter was born, we were sent more pink clothes than we knew what to do with.

I plan on doing the same with this little latke Chat Icon
