Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I asked my OB yesterday if I could some form of exercise (besides chasing around my 2 year old ). I asked him if I could resume my yoga class or walk very slowly on the treadmill. He said that it is fine but I have some reservations for some reasons. What are your thoughts on this? I may be being paranoid but I am conflicted about exercising before 12 weeks. I am 7 weeks. Oh BTW, the yoga class is a beginners yoga class. TIA!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
My SIL's doctor gave her some good advice, I think - she said you can do whatever you feel like doing, you'll know when you're pushing too hard. SIL said fine and hit the gym. It wasn't until afterward that she really understood - she couldn't really do much. She was tired, sick, etc. She said her doctor was really sly, she knew she wouldn't be up for much at all!
Personally, I continued exercising throughout the first trimester of my first pregnancy, but unfortunately it ended in miscarriage. I'm sure that had nothing to do with it, but I took it easy this time around. Although now that I'm almost 13 weeks, I feel like it's time to get back to the gym.

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
Since we went through IVF & I was told to take it easy I have not been on the treadmill in a month. As soon as I get the go ahead I do plan on going back to it but I know that I will have to take it easy. Just walking around the mall & stuff does get me winded at times & I know I am in good shape.
A friend that works out like crazy & is currently 21 weeks pregnant told me, you will truly feel it. She was a big time marathon runner & was able to run up until 2 weeks ago. So your body will definately tell you if you are doing too much

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I was really thinking about and I am so tired all the time that I dont think that I could do an hour of yoga I might just wait it out until maybe the second trimester and I hopefully have some energy back!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I also went through IVF and was told to take it easy so i've been reeealllllyy lazy. Plus- at my first sono the doc said my right ovary is enormous, and I don't want to risk twisting it.
I think i'll stay lazy for awhile

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
My OB said exercise if fine as long as i don't overheat mysself and that my body will tell me when I have had enough. I had been using the treadmill every day for about a half hour. That is about all I can handle. I am 10 weeks today.

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
You can do most exercises you were doing pre-pregnancy, but when doing cardio it's important that your heart rate does not get above 140. As far as yoga, you shouldn't take a regular yoga class, you should take a prenatal yoga class. There are many positions in normal yoga classes that aren't ok to do when pregnant. Prenatal yoga focuses spefically on the needs of pregnant bodies. I've been taking it throughout my pregnancy and it feels great. Have fun!

I'm only 5 weeks, but I've been playing tennis and going on the treadmill. My doc said exercise is fine.

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I'm 27 weeks and still go on the elliptical machine 4-5 days a week. My doctor just told me not to get overheated and to make sure my heart rate doesn't go above 140. And of course nothing overly strenuous. I was also doing some light weights but not so much now.

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I am 5 weeks and have continued with my normal excercise routine. I just ease up a bit on the intensity. I see my trainer once a week, take a navy seals trx class once a week and do 40 min on the eliptical at least 3x a week. The hardest part is getting the motivation to go now because I am so tired but I always feel better after, so I go!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
My OB said I could do whatever I had already been doing as long as I felt good. - He said obviouisly not to take up spinning NOW, and to avoid the sports that could obviously cause injury (skiing, skydiving etc - )
But I walk everywhere - to/from the house to the train, to/from Penn to the office - And I'm practially running ........I've kept it up for 27 weeks - some days I need to slow down a bit, but I personally think it's good for ME to push myself a bit and not just lay on the couch b/c I'm PG -
My asthma has been bad for the past month or so, so I've laid off of the elliptical -

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
i wish i could exercise
unfortunately in my last pregnancy i had pre-term contractions (not pre-term labor - i never got dilated/effaced, and went full-term), and this time around they have started already at 13 weeks! movement makes them worse, so i need to limit any extraneous moving around...
counting the days until i can get back to my routine!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
My doc told me I can keep up my exercising. And that it is recommended as long as I dont over do it. In my first trimester I did my normal gym routine when I wasn't too exhausted! Then in the second tri, I walked alot. On the treadmill or in the park, and still used hand weights. If I over exerted myself it would literally take 3 days to recover. So now at just about 28 weeks I still go on the treadmill, use light weights and use WII Fit the best I can. I just dont over do it. I notice now I am getting tired alot quicker too!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
There is no reason to not continue with your regular exercise at this point (unless doctor has concerns). Just go by what feels right to your body and wear a heart rate monitor to keep your heart rate in check. At 8 months I still do spin classes, although obviously not at the intensity level I used to.

I've been doing it, just not as hard as I use to. I was nervous and kind of laying low but I can't take not doing anything anymore!

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
I had some heavy bleeding at week 7 right after I came home from the gym (I had been on the stairmaster for an hour) and my doctor told me to stop exercising until week 12.
Now I am back in the gym walking at an incline on the treadmill and I bought some pre-natal workout dvd's for when I don't feel like schlepping out to the gym.

Re: Exercise in early pregnancy...what are your thoughts?
My Dr. said it was fine to continue doing whatever I was doing prior to getting pregnant. I actually had to stop for about a month due to spotting, but once the spotting stopped for a solid two weeks i was able to go back. Remember you just have to keep it litter than usual.
