Re: how long do you use your infant carrier for

the bjorn goes up to 25 pounds... but i stopped using it when DS was about 20 pounds (maybe 8-9 months) because it put SO much strain on my back (and this is the carrier with the lumbar support).

just last week we took it back out again to use for a trip. DS is 23 pounds and it KILLED me.

i think i am just not a carrier person... or maybe i'll need to try a different one for this baby.

ETA: you do mean the bjorn-type carriers, right? or do you mean the infant car seat?

Try the Ergo next time. It goes up to 40 lbs. I can still wear DS comfortably and he's almost 30 lbs.

If you mean the infant carseat-- DS grew out of his by 6 months. (But he was also off the charts weight wise. He also wasn't a big baby when he was born. He was only 7 lbs 1 oz. So you can't always tell from birth weight how big they'll be by a certain age.)

Well if you mean the infant car seat - that really depends on the baby - I knew people whose children were out of it at 4 months and others at 12 months. DD was 9lbs 4 ozs at birth but was only going into her convertible seat at 11 months.

If you mean the other carrier - Honestly I stopped using it around 6-8 months - DD was about 17 lbs but it was heavy to carry her around after a while.
