The Roomba and your dog...

I have a Rottie and a German Shep/Akita mix..I have thought about getting a Roomba to keep up with the fur...but I think my dog would attack the Roomba, actually I think both of them would.

The one hates the vacuum cleaner and tries to bite it all the time.

Anyone have big dogs and a Roomba?

Katie is small but she used to attack the regular vaccuum. When got the roomba we would tell her "NO!" if she started to get mad at it. Now she leaves it alone.

Re: The Roomba and your dog...

2 Airedale terriers, they were FREAKED at first, barked spun in circles, went ballistic. Soooo I started putting little treats on it (with it off) that got them close enough to see it wasn't "alive" as they suspected...
From there I just ran it frequently for short runs for about a week. Now they barely move even when it bumps into them!!!

Brody is big and he attacks the dustbuster so I am sure he would go after the Roomba. I should ask my firiend Liz she has a roomba, but her dog is a little pug! The roomba probably scares her!

Scout is a good-sized Lab. I am not sure if he is afraid of the Roomba or he thinks it's a toy. But he definitely will not just leave it alone. I use it when I take him out to the park, so he can't interrupt it.

You can use it when you take your dogs out for walks, have them in the yard, when they go to bed if they sleep in your room.....this is what I do!

Re: The Roomba and your dog...

My dogs aren't big, but they used to run away to the next room or outside when we ran the Roomba (they don't like the sound of a vacuum or anything loud). At first we only used it while we were home so we could supervise, until they got used to it. Now they'll just let it bump into them before they'll move out of the way. We thought they would be much more interested since it was moving around by itself like a toy, but they didn't really care.
