visiting grandma in hospital
Hey ladies sadly my 93 year old grandmother has become ill and has been in the hospital for almost a week...she had some brain surgery and now they are monitoring her heartbeat which has all on a sudden become irregular...i went to visit her on tuesday and i was told by one of the icu nurses that i really shouldnt stay long, that i should give her a kiss and get out of there and not to come back...now she is in out of the icu and in a regular room...my question is can i go and visit her...is it safe for me and the baby...i am about 32 weeks...she will probably be moved to a rehab place shortly...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Re: visiting grandma in hospital
As a nurse I think it is fine that you visit her if she is on a regular floor. just be sure to sanitze your hands before and after. Is she on any type of isolation precautions? if so gown up and wear the gloves. Prolly couldnt hurt to wear the gloves either way. Reason prolly being in the ICU area everyone is very sick from respiratory problems and to total infections. Even very contagious diarrhea. So i personally dont see a problem with it as manager on a unit.

I would agree to keep your visits on the shorter side, but I don't see the harm in going. Sending for your grandmother!

I agree with the above poster EXCEPT I wouldnt be entering the room if there are precautions, and I would check what her roommate is there for if she has one. If you could i would really try to wati for her to come home, but thats just me..
