Repost from Infertility - hoping you can help...

Let me first say that I am totally overwhelmed so I'm sorry if I ramble...

DH and I have been TTC for a while now...DS #1 was unplanned so we really can not reference how long we TTC with baby #1.

I finally found a high risk OB that I loved - Victor Klein in Great Neck...he ran some basic bloodwork and a few things came back out of whack - prolactin levels and TSH (thyroid). We never got to do CD3 bloodwork...so I can't speak for that...

We continued to try on our own but my cycles are rather irregular so he referred me to East Coast Fertility... I lucked out and got an appt right away due to a cancellation. I received my "packet" today and I am totally overwhelmed. We have some very mild fertility issues but it seems as though East Coast Fert is really BIG on IVF - something we are just not ready for. It would take A LOT of consideration before we even go that route.

I guess what I'm asking is - is an office like East Coast Fert purely for those with large scale fertility issues? Will they be able to treat my hormone issues and irregular ovulation or would I be better off with an OB that is willing to do this?

i would definitely keep it.. it cant hurt.. and i am sure they will help you out and run some tests.. you mentioned a few things and its reason enough to go see the specialist..

I have not taken any steps yet as far as infertility is concerned (I am in denial, I think!), so I don't know a ton.
But, I have seen a lot of people on this board saying they have gone to an RE with issues like that. Have you tried that route?

well from what i understand East Coast Fert is a group of reproductive endocrinologists - someone please correct me if i'm wrong...

I was referred to them by my OB after my blood work came back abnormal... So i guess that's who he would consider...

I am still overwhelmed by the packet I received b/c it screams IVF and I would like to think that would be a last resort for us after trying many other things...

Unfortunately when you have infertility, there aren't a whole lot of options to exhaust before going on to IVF.

I went to East Coast. I did 1 IUI - which was actually pointless as the chances of us getting pregnant were next to nothing - lower than if we simply BDd the old fashioned way.

I changed REs (yes, Reproductive Endocrinologists) and got pregnant on my 2nd IVF - and by the way IVF is by no means a sure thing. Most women have gone through many more cycles than I had to, for which I am truly grateful.

You need to sit down with your RE and find out what your chances are of getting pregnant with hormone replacement therapy, on clomid, with IUI, with IVF, and IVF using ICSI. Educate yourself about these terms and treatments, and that way you can ask pertinent and conclusive questions.
