When/why do you get induced?

I hear of several ladies getting induced. What determines who gets induced and when?

I'd guess that it's when the baby is overdue but I also hear of you ladies who are getting induced 1-2 weeks early.

As of right now, I'm scheduled to be induced on 2/1 (my due date is 2/9). I was diagnosed with GD, and in my Drs. practice, they do not let GD mommies go until their due date for a variety of reasons (every practice is different, I know many ladies that this wasn't the case). It's just the way my Drs. practice operates.

I was induced at 38 weeks due to high BP and severe swelling. I ended up with a c-section after I failed to progress.

The doctors didn't want me to go any longer and possibly develop pre-eclampsia. I was admitted to L&D at 36 weeks for high BP and then placed on bedrest. Every doctor I met with since that trip to L&D said they wouldn't let me go past 38 weeks. I had several tests at the remaining appointments to see whether I needed to be induced that day or whether I could wait until 38 weeks.

every doctor's office is different. my OB would not induce until 41 weeks because she believes that inducing before then very often leads to shoulder dystocia in babies.

because i thought i was having a big baby, instead of being induced a week early (which i would have preferred) my only option was to have a c-sesction, which i had 3 days before my due date.

i was induced with DD, i had a problem with my platelets and she was over a week late anyway.

My doctor has told me she will only consider inducing if the baby is several weeks late for a normal, healthy pregnancy. She said otherwise, she will not discuss it because the risk of c-section is too high. She also feels that due dates are only estimates. They could be off at least a week either way. She also has said that too many women (self included!) are not sure their exact date of conception which is another reason she is not big on inducing.

got induced because my BP was high.

I was induced at 39w5d because I had GD and DD was measuring at 9.5lbs.

My friend got induced at 38 weeks because she had protein in her urine.

I was induced at 39 weeks due to preeclampsia.

If you do not have a medical reason, most doctors don't induce til you are overdue.

I got induced on my due date 'cause I had too much amnio fluid! I heard a lot of ladies will have LOW fluid but I'm one of only a handful with too much I think!!
