DH's who smoke
OK so since I am pregnant, of course, the rule is..no smoking around me.
But since it's "so cold out"..DH has been smoking at the back door with the door open a crack...that does nothing...if I am in the living room, I can totally smell it - it's disgusting! Why doesn't he get it??? Then, even before I got pg, the one room he was "allowed" to smoke in was the bathroom - we only have one - with the window open. Now, I feel like even that should be a no-no...but how do I get all of this across to him? Every time I complain he tells me I am being naggy and b!tchy and "have some sympathy for me when it's 30 degrees out " I should add that it took us 4 years to get pregnant so you would think he'd take it a little more seriously..
Plus, I feel like my house is so stuffy now..we don't have any windows open. It could be my hormones / sense of smell but I feel like our house just smells stuffy now..if that make sense.
What can I do? Is he harming us by having even the tiniest bit of smoke in the house? It would be easier if it were nice weather outside..in the spring / summer he smokes completely outside except for the bathroom.

Re: DH's who smoke
You are much better than me.. Dh is forbidden to smoke in this house.. He denies it that he even smokes... He hides it like a teenager.. Good I like it that way.. His car is disgusting.. It stinks and he swares its a cigar no cig's he thinks I am an idiot.. But I hate the smell even more since I am pregnant too.. I stopped asking him to quit but I will never stop saying howdisgusting it is and if I ever smell smoke on my new born child I will freak out.. He reaks terribly..

Re: DH's who smoke
It's got to stop..I know easier said than done. I understand the "stress" factor for him, but things are no longer about him.. now that you are pregnant it's all about the baby, KWIM? If he is that insistent on smoking, then he needs to layer up his clothes and go stand far from any doors. He needs to think about his unborn child now. And definately no more smoking in the bathroom!
Ugh... I'm so angry for you!

Re: DH's who smoke
Plain and simple tell him to get his as* out of the house and that you don't give a damn how cold it is. Plain and simple. You are being very kind to him. XOXOXO BOTB

Re: DH's who smoke
DH NEVER smokes in the house. He's been going out on the patio in this weather.
When I wasn't preggos and smoked, I would go stand out in the bitter cold/snow to smoke. I hate smoking in a house.

i know i can't tell you what to do, but if it were me, i would forbid DH to smoke anywhere but outside. and i HATE the word forbid.
ask him this: what happens if your baby ends up having health problems? you have tried for FOUR YEARS to get pregnant, does HE want to be the reason your baby has asthma - or worse?

Re: DH's who smoke
Dh and I BOTH quit when I got PG. You need to toss his butt in a basement if you have one. I can sympathize with him to a point BUT he needs to make an effort too. NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE.

Re: DH's who smoke
wow that's tough... But does he know that SIDS rates ae increased for smoking homes? And of course there are a host of other health problems associated with it. If he's adamant and won't compromise, think about getting an air purifier or two to clean the air in your place. Also if you have a range with an extractor fan that might be the best place for him to smoke (and ONLY there). An open window in the bathroom won't do much unless there's a breeze whisking the smoke out; on any day it could actually be blowing the smoke IN to your home. Also ask your ped if they have any literature about smoking around PG women/babies, more than likely they have some stuff you can drop on him that might sensitize him to the dangers....

ask him this: what happens if your baby ends up having health problems? you have tried for FOUR YEARS to get pregnant, does HE want to be the reason your baby has asthma - or worse? ITA. And when DS was diagnosed with RSV, I asked him to quit altogether. Unfortunately DH is an addict, not just a smoker, and we have tried a few different things to get him to stop. He is unfortunatley not a candidate for Chantix, so we have done hypnotherapy, accupuncture, lozenges, thepatch & none work. He is not permitted to go near my son if he has been smoking, and he must take a shower the secondhe walks through the door. He is not allowed to smoke even in his car since he has to drive DS.
It is not an option and it is not about me vs. him. The babies' health is not negotiable.

Re: DH's who smoke
Ugh! I totally feel for you. DH is a heavy smoker and realllly wants to quit before the baby is born and is trying...even tried lazer therapy. But yeah - he smokes outside on the back patio, and when he comes in the lingering smoke comes in too.
I yell at him constantly about it. And while he also makes efforts to not have me around the smoke - only smokes outside, etc, I still smell it whenever we are walking from the car to a store, vice versa (even though I stay many steps ahead of him), I get so mad!
I constantly have to remind him about the baby's health, developing lungs (especially in the last tri)..and that is when he tries the hardest to quit.
I have to say that if he did smoke in the house I would probably stay at my moms (not that you should have to or that it's an option), but I would personally go somewhere else just to show him how serious I was.
I don't know how to advise you as I am fighting the same battle, but good luck
Whle I'm not trying to freak you out, here is an article I emailed dh. Read the Growth and developement section under children
mayo clinic article

Re: DH's who smoke
Dh has been trying to stop for a few weeks now for good but he NEVER smokes in the house. I would tell him tough sh*t and make him come to the doctor with you and hear how second hand smoke causes low birth weight babies and miscarriages.

Re: DH's who smoke
you gotta make him quit, second hand smoke, (and its getting on his clothing when hes outside anyway) can increase the risk of SIDS RSV and asthma among a host of other problems.. id look up some info on it, the effects of second hand smoke during pregnancy to be exact..and print it out for him, then id explain to him that hes choosing to get you sick and possibly hurt your unborn child.. i cant understand people, i know its an addiction, but this one affects other people!! Not just the person doing it!! good luck, i feel bad, thats a hard one!!
