Bothers me, because I really like some of the recurring top 10 names, but I personally don't want to name my baby the same name that 10 other kids on the playground have too.
I remember growing up and being surrounded by Jennifers and Jessicas.....absolutely nothing wrong with the names, but it's just there were so many of them that they ended up being distinguished by either last name initial or physical descriptions. There was big Jenn, little Jenn (seriously how awful is that when you think about it???) and Jessica C and Jessica M. I just want my kids name to be his own. I know there's no guarantee he won't share a name with someone at some point but I just don't want half his friends to have the same name as him, that's all.
i feel the same way. both dh and i have less than popular names and really liked growing up with them. we'd like to do the same thing for our kids.

A lot of people  at me about this - but yes, it matters to me.
I don't want my kid to be one of 5 in the class w/ the same name.

ON the other hand - I had a name in mind that is way, way down on the list. We didn't go with this name because I didn't want him to have such an unusual name he would be made fun of, and also I want them to be able to find personalized stuff with their name on it. I know it sounds stupid, but I remember that being a big deal when I was little.

popularity matters to dh and i a lot. we don't want our children to be in a classroom with several other children with the same name. we also don't want someone to be able to guess when our child was born by his name.

NOT AT ALL! We picked a somewhat "unusual name" A lot of people amke faces when we tell them, We could care less, It will be our son and no one else's...lol
