I took his last name & this baby will too. Our DD has her name hyphenated maidenname-DHsname. I really need to get around to changing that Chat Icon

How did that come about? Was that how your name read at the time? How did you change your name to just his? I want to do this.

I immediately changed my name after getting married! I'm pretty old school when it comes to that stuff though!

I wanted to hyphenate because I love my maiden name BUT it would've been way to long! My maiden name was 13 letters and my married name is 8!

I hadn't legally changed my name when DS was born even though we had been married over a yearChat Icon Chat Icon

And when DS was born everything was Baby L D but his bc, ss everything read correctly.

I changed my name when DS was 6 months old to my first name maiden as middle and then DH's last name.

Even if I didn't change my name, my DS would have just my DH's name.

ETA: My SIL (DH's sister) had her DH take her last name. So they have the same last name as us, even though it is DH's sister.

Re: Did you take your husband's last name when you got married?

i hyphenated. i wanted to keep my maiden name, after all, i got my degree and became very independent with my maiden name. i hyphenated so that my children and i would have a similar name. i can't imagine it would be hard to change your name. probably just a fee, but it might be hard to find records of your name. sometimes i can't remember if i used my hyphenated name or just my DH's last name.

Re: Did you take your husband's last name when you got married?

I am married almost 2 years and I just switched everything at work last month. It wasn't too much of a hassle at Social Security or the DMV. I didnt want to have the baby before I changed my name, it's nice that we all have the same name.

I didn't change my last name and I don't plan to. DD will take DH's last name. I don't think it is such a big deal. I am a teacher and I see lots of kids with different last names than their mothers.

Re: Did you take your husband's last name when you got married?

Yes! I went from 9 letters to 3....much easier!

I tend to think that it wouldnt be any more difficult then changing it as if you did when you first got married. Probably just some paperwork.

Re: Did you take your husband's last name when you got married?

I don't think it would be a big hassle to change it now, it really shouldn't matter. I hyphenated. In my coulture women don't change their last names when they marry, I decided to at least add his to mine. He's become a part of me now so I thoguht it was right.

I just had my baby, I am hyphenated so baby had my hyphen name. But then you fill out papers to put what name baby will have, for SS and of course we just put DHs last name. Baby having your name in the hospital is not an issue.

I know I can change it on the paperwork - But I'm afraid his hospital bracelet and his name in the nursery etc. will say Baby M K .........DH will be REALLY upset if that's the case. I don't know why it's such a big deal to him, but I don't want to upset him w/ something so stupid - KWIM?

My friend's sister kept her maiden name at work and that is how her insurance read as well and when her children were born they were baby [her maiden name]. they go by whatever your insurance is.
