Done with IVF Consult..
I met with Dr. Cain this afternoon for my IVF consult and I have my nurses appt set up as well as my PGD testing appt Dr. Stelling. As soon as my period comes we will start, so I'll probably have my retrieval right around Christmas. DH had an infection last time we had IUI so his sperm count wasn't the best, so she said we'll see what it is and the day of the retrieval they will decide whether to do ICSI or not. She also mentioned that they do assisted hatching with all patients over 35. Hopefully we will have 3 or 4 good embryos to put back.
Dr. Cain feels that IVF will double or triple my chances of getting pregnant rather than doing IUI again. Iwas happy to hear that. We thoroughly discussed PGD and she thinks it's the best thing given my previous losses, my age, and the fact that my sister (who is 32) just lost a pregnancy at 13 weeks, to trisomy 18. I know it doesn't test for everything, but I am at most risk for Downs and they do test for that. Nothing is a guarantee, I know this, but after speaking with her and yesterday with my acupuncturist, I think PGD will be the way to go for me.
I feel relieved excited and overwhelmed at the same time! But I can't wait to get started.

Awwwww Good! I am glad you feel more comfortable...
Did you talk about how long it will take to prepare the test??? I also see Dr. Stelling... and they use Genesis Genetics... and it took like 7 weeks...

I have an appt with Dr. Stelling on 11/25. Dr. Cain said I can start with my next period, since DH and I have have every possible blood genetic test possible already. She also said whether it would be done or not would depend on how many eggs were retrieved. So I guess we'll see how it goes later on.

I also see Dr. Stelling. It took genesis genetics 7 weeks to build my probes as well, and Stelling won't let you start until they are done. So, don't get your hopes up about starting this month. Also, both labs close a little before Christmas, so there is a deadline for ER.

If you are doing PGD for Aneuploidy, probes do not have to be made, as they already have them. It is if you are testing for something specific, where you have a wait for the probes.

Thanks so much for this information! We are not testing for anything specific, well just Downs, which is part of the general panel run. I was so upset after reading the other 7 week post I called the drs. office and changed my appt to this Tuesday in West Islip.

I can't imagine them not already having probes for this. The lab I went to did and I have to assume others do since it is a very common test. Good luck to you!
