Nothing to do with pregnancy
Can anyone please tell me why my 1.5 year old dog, whom is fixed and female is humping my 6 month old dog who is not yet fixed and also female? Weve had the puppy for a few months and this just started?

Re: Nothing to do with pregnancy
the puppy who is not fixed may be starting her first heat..which gets all dogs that can smell her very excited. when my female had her first (and only) heat, my male dog (who was fixed) practically raped her. All my dogs that have ever been in heat have caused a major reaction among dogs of all sexes. I was once walking another one of my dogs who was in heat, and another dog being walked broke away from his/her leash to come running after my dog. Another time, the dog down the block broke out of his yard into our yard when our dog (in our house, not even in the yard) was in heat. 6 months is about the right time for it. But even if not, sometimes dog just do this--whether they are both female, both male, one of each..

Re: Nothing to do with pregnancy
The older dog may sense the puppy is going into heat soon and therefore started humping. Or it's a dominance thing. I would certainly say NO and discourage the behavior if you don't want it to continue, as well as get your puppy fixed by 8 mths or so.

I would guess it's likely a dominance thing.

Agreed. I wouldn't discourage it just yet, dogs establishing the pack placement is a good thing. It should subside over time, if the pup recognizes it's place.
