Would this bother you???

Ok, let me start by saying that I have a son who I would do almost anything for. It was always my worst nightmare that he would be allergic to my furkids or something would happen and I'd have to get rid of them. Luckily, that hasn't been the case but, if it did happen, I would.

So, my friend forwarded me an e-mail from her friend. She is getting rid of her 6 year old cat b/c too many of her son's friends are allergic to the cat and so they can't come over to her house to play with him and it isn't fair to him. He's 3. Um, is it just me or is this wrong??? I mean, my son has friends who are allergic to my animals so we either go over their house, meet at a neutral place or they come over in the summer and play in the back yard. I just don't understand some people. I don't know why this bothers me so much.

So, if anyone wants a beautiful grey domestic short hair, let me know. Sushi is 6 years old and declawed in the front. She is only an indoor cat.

Yeah- I have to agree with you. I had to send my cats away because DD was highly allergic- and it broke my heart. I would have NEVER given them away due to FRIENDS' allergies. Thats just selfishness/laziness- she could easily take her DC to other's homes for playdates.

Would def bother me. I'd rather my son get new friends than get rid of my pet! I agree it makes more sense to go to the other kids house for play dates or the park or something.. not get rid of a family pet for a friend's allergy.

Re: Would this bother you???

I would never do that. It sounds like it was just an excuse and maybe they didn't want the cat anymore.

This makes me so angry. It bothers me that people think pets are disposable. If you're not ready to commit to that animal for its entire lifetime, don't bother!!!!!!

So annoying Chat Icon

Re: Would this bother you???

That bothers me just reading about it. If it was your own family member with the allergy, that's one thing. But to get rid of the pet because of their friends? Really?

Re: Would this bother you???

Um, I have no words. I will spread the info, but I have to say if it were my own child that would be one thing,(and even then I would have exhausted EVERY possibility before re-homing) but a 3 yr old's friends are allergic? Well then guess what...they don't come over. I know I have had my pets longer than anyone I was friends with at the age of 3.

Unreal.

One word... Disgraceful.
Obviously this person doesn't really want or love the cat because if they did this wouldn't even be an option.

Sorry- maybe I'm being cold here- but at 3 years old- too f-ing bad. Get new friends. The cat stays....

I don't think I'd tell a 3 year old to 'get new friends' .........but I could never get rid of my dog due to a visiting child's allergies. - I would have to do outdoor play dates, or 'on site' play dates at the park or something .......I thnk it's unfair to alienate a kid b/c he's allergic to your pet just as much as it's terrible to get rid of your pet !!

I have allergies, there are some people's homes that I can not go to - it's just life. I pop a few benadryl and brace myself (which I wouldn't do w/ a kid) or a just say I'm sorry, I can't come, the cats kill me ........

Re: Would this bother you???

That is ridiculous!! There is always going to be SOMEONE that is allergic to an animal. Even some of my own friends have pet allergies. I would NEVER give up my pet over a friends allergy!
