Ahhhhh the joys of cat urine

Well, I knew that litter-training 7 kittens would never be EASY...but I didn't realize that once a kitten had an "accident" on the carpet, they continuously smell that area and now think that's where they are supposed to go, despite the 8 litter boxes lining that same wall... Anyway, we ordered new carpet for this room (it's SUPPOSED to be our nursery in 6 weeks), but today we ripped up the carpet to survey the damage.

Not only was the carpet ruined (not a big deal), but the pad was soaked through all the way down to the subfloor!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So, looks like before the new carpet can go in, poor DH will be ripping up the subfloor in there. Because that smell NEVER comes out.

oh boy..I know this well. I've replaced carpet three times on my stair landings. Now there is plastic there.

I ripped up my living room carpet and put a laminate floor.

What we don't do for our kitties.

You are going to heaven.Chat Icon

Dog urine is just as fun. When we ripped up our rugs, we had the same problem. DH ripped up as far as he could and then he put a coat of special paint called Kilz down and that's suppose to really help. You may want to look into it.

For the future..... When they have an accident do you clean teh area with "Nature's Miracle" or another enzyme cleaner??

They will continue to go in the same spot on carpet or wood floors if they still smell urine there. "Nature's Miracle", sold at Petco or another pet supply store is a spray that dissolves teh enzymes in animal urine and feces to completely remove the "Scent" that will cause them to remark.

Whenever our dogs or cats have an accident the are alwasy gets cleaned with natures miracle and prevents them from going there again!

Nature's Miracle has never worked for me. I use an enzyme detergent called Bio-Zet that works on the smell, but on of my cats will still go there Chat Icon.

My end solution was getting rid of an area rug I had.
