Discharge vs. Amniotic Fluid
I know that amniotic fluid is supposed to smell sweet, but sweet how, like candy sweet? what else would indicate if it was amniotic fluid?
this discharge that I am having today seems to be fairly odorless, it is clear and on the slimy/watery side.....I will eventually call the dr, but you guys make me feel better than the dr does!

Re: Discharge vs. Amniotic Fluid
When I was pg with DS, I had discharge for the last few months of pregnancy. I'm sure everything is fine!

Re: Discharge vs. Amniotic Fluid
I asked an ob about this as i call on these docs and i noticed the whole sweet smell thing too, not to worry! You will know if you are leaking fluid as it can usually do a good soak job,not only that I was told it is kinda rare unless you are at the very end and pending labor. Keep in mind, if you consume sugar, glucose is present in the urine and can smell sugary! I think that might be me because i eat too much sugar! I worried but mine has been there for months, baby is great, moving like a champ and everyone i talked to said totally normal. Weird medical fact- in the old , old days MD's used to smell and drink the urine of a thought to be diabetic to tell if they had diabetes! Like i said, urine def can present with a sweeter than normal smell. Keep in mind too that some peoples pancreas dont do the job as well during pregnancy and glucose can spill out into the urine-usually you would test positive for gestational in this case but it is not unusal bc i passed my GD test and still notice the sugar..call me crazy but i think you are fine! Dont worry.

Re: Discharge vs. Amniotic Fluid
When my SIL leaked amniotic fluid so stoof up and there was literally a puddle on her chair. It's like a mini version of your water breaking - from what I hear, anyway.

Re: Discharge vs. Amniotic Fluid
When I was in L&D last week, the nurse said if I was leaking fluid it would be soaking through my underwear.

Thanks! I am certainly not making puddles anywhere I might call my dr this afternoon just to ask, but I do have an appt on monday anyway. I have a doppler and that little heart is beating away, so I am hoping everything is just fine.
