so im gonna switch....is this crazy?!?!?
i am 25w today, there has been one pretty big issue with one specific doctor in my obgyn practice that has not left my mind..(long story) i am veryy veryyy comfortable with the other dr's.. i posted once before about wanting to leave the group because what if this ONE dr is on call the nite i go into labor (which is likely, cause its just the kinda luck i have lol)... anyway, i stuck with them, even after i was in the hospital last month, and he totally made me very uncomfortable with some of the calls he was trying to make re: my care.. today i realize good sam has no nicu, since people on here have been posting about this lately..and with all of MY health problems, i cant help but wonder if G'd forbid my lil one needs nicu, we will be seperated!! and ive made a desicion to switch ob groups (going with one my bff with 4 kids recommends) and deliver at Winthrop... is that crazy this late in the game?!?!?!

Honestly I think it is never too late as long as you are comfortable with the hospital (BTW I love Winthrop) and the Dr that will be delivering your LO. I had a very touchy delivery and I got the most amazing care before, during and after my c-section there.

I don't think you are crazy at all. I think it is CRUCUAL that you feel absolutely comfortable with your practitioner and trust them!!
I hopeyou find a great practitioner that will make your feel at ease with the rest of your pregnancy and makes you feel comfortable going into your delivery!

Not crazy at all. I had to have an emergency c-section and my obgyn's office had closed and the after hours phone operator refused to call my obgyn so I got someone else who I had never seen my entire pregnancy to perform the c-section. At least I knew and loved the hospital I delivered DS at. I think the hospital yo deliver at matters just as much if not moreso that the dr. The dr is there for the birth, but everyone else - nurses and staff make the experience too. I was extremely fortunate and love my hospital (Morristown Memorial - in NJ).

I'm almost 100% postive that Good Sam has a nicu. My friends ex-girlfriend was a nicu nurse at Good Sam. If you feel uncomfortable then switch, it can't hurt. Just make sure you find a docotor you are comfortable with.

IMO having a doc you are comfortable with is very important regardless of how far along you are. I hope you find someone who better suits your needs.

Not crazy at all, my sister did the same thing at 30 weeks! She had finally had enough of her Drs and knew she couldn't go through delivery with them.
You have to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable

Re: so im gonna switch....is this crazy?!?!?
I had a similar situation. I went to a practice, loved one dr., didnt care for the other. The one I loved left and I followed him at 32+ weeks. It was the best decision I made. I dont think my L & D would have been as easy, comforting, enjoyable with the other dr. Go with your gut feeling!

Re: so im gonna switch....is this crazy?!?!?
the only thing that is crazy is sticking w/ a dr that you are not comfortable or confident with... def switch! i switched at 15 weeks. there is alot of paperwork involved so be prepared...... but its all worth it!

Maybe I wil take your advice and try the same....how do you think the new dr would react? Will you tell them your real reasons? I guess I worry that most of these drs know each other and will it be awkward to admit to them why you aren't meshing with the other dr? I have been worried about this, part of why I didn't switch. Would the new dr have to keep your convo with him confidential, anyone know?

Re: so im gonna switch....is this crazy?!?!?
i dont think ill tell him WHICH dr i specifically dont like..i think ill just say i wanted more of a one on one experience, and didnt want to be surprised the day i deliver with who would be there.. im not gonna tell my existing office either, im just gonn ask them for my records, and say another doctor im seeing needs them, the front desk girls dont get too involved in that, so theyll never know.. im very funny in the way that i usually either LOVE or DISLIKE people..i never feel iffy about ANYONE.. so if i LOVE this guy, ill leave them, if im eh about him..i wont.. i feel like i GOTTA know what else is out there though..
thank you all AGAIN

I knew it!! They are actually suppose to have a really good Nicu. I think people are confusing it with Huntington Hospital which does not have a Nicu. My sister has actually given birth at both hospitals.

I don't think it's crazy at all! If your life is governed by Murphy's Law, as is mine, then I would definitely switch. And if you still want to deliver at Good Sam and are looking for a solo practitioner who is fabulous [and the doctor that debsey75 followed...] go to Dr. Kiran Trivedi. His office is at 1 Grant Ave., Islip. (631)859-1920. He took over Dr. Michelle Polidoro's practice. He is caring, intelligent and has a great personality!! I him!
