re: the BRU return policy
So, yesterday im in the store, and i have this problem, i cant stop buying off my own registry..anyway not the point here... so my isnt due for another 123 days..and i say to the store manager....
me: "with your new return policy, and my child being born AFTER your dumb 90 day rule...what do you suggest i do, since i wont know what my baby really needs or doesnt (size, likes and dislikes) till shes here..and your new policy doesnt allow me to return anything EVEN WITH A RECEIPT after 90 days..not even for a credit..."
him:" "oh, well i never realized that, i guess youre right, people will be shopping a few months before their is due, i guess when you come back and you need to retun anything, since youre registered here, we will look at your registry and try to be more accomodating to your specific situation"
me: "um, ok, right...but im buying alot of pajamas today, because youre having a sale, so what happens if theyre the wrong size? I cant return them with the receipt cause i didnt register for them?"
at this point, im totally agrgavated cause i think hes just slightly moronic...so i say thank you and leave... my thoughts in the car... "Maybe i should now be a pain in the ***, register for EVERYTHING im buying when i go in there, adding it online when i get home, or at the store with the lil gun...and then taking it off as bought on my own registry so that they see it was a registry item and it was bought. OK the fact io would even HAVE to do this is RIDICULOUS, JUST GIMME A CREDIT AT LEAST! UGH

Re: re: the BRU return policy
I believe their policy was always that you need to return within 90 days, even with the receipt. I remember having an issue with a carseat that was on my registry, I had the gift receipt for it too, but I was trying to return it more than 90 days after the date on the receipt. This was almost a year ago.
ETA: I do completely agree with your point, definitely! It is annoying!!

Re: re: the BRU return policy
I had the biggest problem with BRU with my dds jumper and Highchair. I didnt need either until dd was bout 6 months old.. but got 2 months before dd was born at my shower. Both items were on my registry and bought off my registry. When i opened both items 8 months after i got them.. they were used and dirty!! (gross).. so of course i took the back.. just wanted an even exchange..
well they wouldnt do it.. b/c when the items were bought they were cheaper then.. they wanted me to pay the difference.. Yeah Right!!! Hows that make sense?? Its the same item.. not my fault some butthead put it back on the shelf knowing it was a returned item and didnt care about the next person buying it.
Best piece of advice i can give all mommies having showers.. CHECK every item even if you wont need it for months from now!!
eta: i ended up getting rid of the yucky ones and getting new ones.. just had to do in a sneaky way..

Re: re: the BRU return policy
If you have them scan your baby registry, even if you don't buy anything off the registry, they can track what you bought. Does that make sense?
We did it for some things that people bought with registry items. They took back the non-registry items because they were on the same transaction as the registry items, even though I didn't have the receipt.
I hope I didn't talk in cirlces...it can be confusing.

but they refused all of my returns that didn't have a receipt. They didn't even look up to see if it was purchased along w/ a registry item. And many of those items were $2 items exlusively sold by BRU, so they knew it came from their store.
I think with returns, you have to go back a few times until you find a customer service person who is accommodating at a time they're not too busy. I unfortunately don't have the time to go back.

Re: re: the BRU return policy
do the sneaky thing.. buy the item again later on and return the wrong item with the new receipt. Pain in the butt but they make it that way.
eta: just wont work with clothing since that turns over quickly.

BRU was the one that told me that they could do this..I had no idea. It was the one in Sayville/Bohemia if that helps.

Re: re: the BRU return policy
Even if you manually change the item to bought they can tell. We got a lot of duplicates at my shower and luckily had receipts for a lot of them. The things we didn't we added to our registry and put on as purchased so we'd be able to return them. They were able to tell that the item was not purchased in the store or off the registry... They are a huge pain.
I carried on a little bit about the fact that SO many guests told us they didn't take items off the registry and when they went back in were told it was not a big deal... How can they not take something back that is on your registry if THEIR employees screw up and forget to take it off.
If we had realized how bad their return policy was we probably would have registered at BBB.

Re: re: the BRU return policy
It makes me really angry that they won't take back their own items. It shouldn't matter if it's on your registry. If it's their brand and it's unopened, they should take it back.

Well, the problem with BBB is that they don't have many stores around. if most of your guests are locals or live near a store, then definitely.... go do it!
I decided my major registry would be amazon, so anyone could order online... also their registry is MUCH better managed than BRU. (An item is taken off the second it is purchased! I got NO DUPLICATES AT ALL. In addition, they provide a thank you list, so you can keep tabs on who gave what, and what their current addresses are) they also have much better prices, frequently free shipping, and a larger selection.
I then decided to do a minor dance with the BRU devil. Nothing but problems. 1/2 the items were not in stock or were discontinued within a month of registering, and numerous items were bought in quadruplicate . So personally, I would avoid BRU if you can.
