I am considering the impossible

I literally cannot live with this sciatic pain anymore. I'm so mentally and physically exhausted from it, and I can't even lay down to take a nap. I'm at the end of my rope.

I'm actually considering going in for back surgery--yes, while I'm pregnant. My pain is so severe that I just don't know how I can possibly get through the next 18 weeks. I am going to see my OB tomorrow, and I am not leaving that office until I get some definitive answers on what I can do for this. The pain killers are not working, and I'm back to work tomorrow.

I've had this pain for 12 weeks and I am just DONE.

Will they even do it while you're pregnant? I am so sorry. I really feel for you because I know how you feel.

I believe she did and I don't know if I would believe accupuncture could fix a herniated disc.

I did try it. Actually, I went for a consult with another Dr. this past Tuesday, and she told me she "couldn't help me", because the pain is in my right leg, and laying on my left (opposite) side is extremely painful. Since I'm 22 weeks, I can't lay on my stomach...

I have no idea if anyone will operate on me while pregnant, but I am willing to try ANYTHING at this point.

Re: I am considering the impossible

my brother was in a terrible acident at work (he was hit with a ton of steal). He suffered from severe siatica pain as well. He is in the midde of receiving nerve block shots in his back. It is a series of three different shots. He is up to #2 and it is helping. He was told that after the 3rd he will feel so much better.

Just a thought. I don't know if they would offer this to a pregnant woman or not.

I hope you feel better! Chat Icon

I had these done before my surgery and they always made sure I wasn't pregnant because they use and MRI to do them. Chat Icon

On a side note they didn't help me Chat Icon I wonder if you can just get a steroid injection. Not sure if that would help though. The nerve blocks are a steroid and Lidocaine I believe. Maybe something else too. They're pretty heavy duty. The side effects for me were awful, some real hormonal imbalances.

Re: I am considering the impossible

Hi, if you need any info or advice you can FM me, i manage a physical therapy/chiropractic/acunpuncture facility...and although i know youre in a tremendous amount of pain, i wanted to let you know that IMO surgery really isnt a very good option for a pregnant women suffering with sciatica..
i say this for a few reasons,
I was in a bad car accident end of may and have to possibly have surgery on my broken collar bone that healed improperly, BEFORE the baby is born (i am already 20w) I am in pain every single day, and it is a pain that will never go away because of something that "went wrong"...with sciatica, you have a nerve thats obviously impinged, which is PROBABLE, that will go away AFTER pregnancy..aside from the risks, surgery is NOT a guarantee either, and it is highly unlikely your insurance will cover it if you havent tried EVERY option first..this is all my opinion, but i work for a "non surgical" office, that doesnt believe in cutting people open right away, and ive seen EVERY patient of mine with sciatica come in, and get treatment, and be healed..PLEASE FM me, if you want info...acupuncture is done differently by every acunpuncturist..i would keep trying ANYTHING until something works..i wouldnt opt for surgery though...
let me know if you need anything!! I can get you in for an appt at any time, and a free consultation, so you can speak to them and see what they can offer..
HTH!!
feel good :( i know youre in alot of pain.
