Your dog while being Pregnant

How has everyone's dog been since becoming pregnant?
Mine has almost realized that I'm going to have someone else to take care of. She's always been insanely attached to me, and mildly attached, yet attached to DH...well ever since I'm pregnat she will lay downstairs with DH when he's downstairs studying or watching tv and not come up until he comes up and is always by his side, never by mine!!!

Has anyone experienced the same thing....
Shes still ultra protective of me, but just more daddys little girl nowChat Icon

Mine definitely knows something is up...but has become even more protective of me. He will even lay on my stomach, where he used to just lay next to us, or rest his head near my belly...but its so strange how they know!!

Mine is just the opposite......I can't turn around without tripping over her. She follows me everywhere and will all but ignore DH. She used to sleep on his side of the bed on the floor, now she has switched to mine even though her bed is still on his.......

See I can't help but worry why she's not more lovey with me now....shes definitely protective and used to be a jumper on me and now won't jump on me, she almost knows that she can't...but just hanging around DH than me...

I almost wonder if mine acts the way she does because it is just her and I now. DH travels during the week and we are alone together all week long.......but she was differnet about it before I was pregnant. She wasn't always there and when he was home I was all but forgotten....

This is the same with mine. I have two-100 lb hound mix who is under my feet constantly-sniffs my belly all the time. My other guy is an 85 lb chow/collie mix. We have had him for 7 years and he has always been a Mama's boy. He has never wanted to leave my side and now is constantly with me. Oddly he doesn't act like anythings up as far as paying more attention to my belly or anything.

So yeah I've got two huge dogs constantly under my feet. I have started training them to walk down the stair ahead of me so I don't fall!

From everything I've heard and seen this may be a blessing-the last thing you will want is a dog under your feet when trying to take care of a baby you know?

Mine's been up my @ss more than ever!! I can't shower, or go to the bathroom without her there now! And when I'm not home, she has to lay on my clothes or in my bed!

Re: Your dog while being Pregnant

my 65lb hound mix Chevy has been clingy with me lately. Like he always lays next to be on the couch and what not. He's still a daddy's boy, but lately is all about mommy!!

Re: Your dog while being Pregnant

this is so funny, i was just telling my friend today...that my kitten (hes 10 months old) DOESNT LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
He will literally crawl on top of me, and sleep right on my belly vertically, with his face right under mine...OR
(and this gets annoying) he will lay horizontally right under my belly, like in the crook of it if im laying down on my back with my knees up
it is SOOOOOOOOO annoying,
and im afraid hes gonna be ULTRA jealous when Chat Icon comes along!!

Lexi (younger of the two Yorkies) will not leave my side. Not only does she sniff my belly, she jams her nose into my belly button. She can TOTALLY sense the baby is there.

Bella on the other hand could care less. She's pretty independent, and although I know she'll be great with the baby, she's pretty much a loner. Chat Icon

My two pups aren't doing anything different yet. Totally acting normal, and as their usual self absorbed selves!Chat Icon
I love them to peices, we can't wait for the baby to come and see how they like their new sister!!! We are really looking forward to seeing them interact with the baby, although we don't imagine they will do a good job at first. We are confident they will learn to love the baby!

Re: Your dog while being Pregnant

My dog def. senses something. She is 100 lbs and would always get super excited when I got home and jump alll over me non stop. Ever since I got pregnant, she has not jumped on me once and is very delicate with me, Only jumps on dh and everyone else who comes over.

She lays her head on my stomach a lot now too and is overly protective.

I think they really do sense that somehting is different.

Re: Your dog while being Pregnant

funny you posted this b/c I just posted on pets about how I've been having some issues with my 1 yr old shepard lately.

She always has been very attached to me, but lately its close to obsessive...always wanting my attention and by my side...and the past few days she seems to be marking her territory...only its our bedChat Icon Chat Icon

I have no clue how to stop this behavior...she knows she is wrong...I don't get it. Accidents never have been and issue from her, she was house broken from almost day 1.Chat Icon

THIS is ALL of my animals!!! Chat Icon My kitty, AND my two huge dogs! They all try to pile into the bathroom when I take a shower (and my bathroom is literally the size of a closet since I moved out of my house and back into an apartment!) Nelson is 85lbs, Kamea is 52lbs, and then the kitty sits in the toilet waiting for me!!! Chat Icon None of them will leave me side. Even Nelson (who has NEVER slept in bed with me) tries to get into the bed at night.....but he has bad legs/hips so that's not possible.

They definitely know that something is up. Kamea rests her head on my belly all night long--it's as if she can't get close enough to me. She could be laying RIGHT on top of me and will try to get even closer. It's really very funny.

Gotta love our pets!
