Question about AFP
When I had my 16 week appt. last week, I saw a new nurse practioner. She said because my ultrascreen results were normal 1 in 6040 for Downs and 1 in 10,000 for trisomy that I didnt really need to have the AFP?? Is this ok? should I have pushed for it?

Re: Question about AFP
I would have. AFP tests for neural tube defects, which anyone any age has a slight risk for. I am surprised they would not do this. High levels of AFP can indicate possible spina bifida, whereas low levels can indicate downs.
I know the test well, I had a false + as the test is well known for false + results. But I still personally think it's a valuable test.
