Unhappy with my Dr. (UPDATE)
I went for my 16 week appointment today and I was so dissapointed with her. She heard the heartbeat with the doppler and then said "do you have any questions" WTFFF is that!!!! I drove an hr away for that? I don't want to sound harshh, I love hjearing my baby's heartbeat but she didn't measure my stomach, she didin't even make me pee ina cup. Geez. And then the other thing that drove me crazy was she told me to go for the quad screen tests when my ultrscreen results were wonderful but said I don't need a level 2 because the next sonogram should be the same.
I called the Perinatal center and they were baffled! They were like "we really recommend that you have a level 2" Well what am I supposed to do argue with my OB???? I'm so PO'D right now. She even sounded insensitive when I gave her my concerns. Am i just being hormonal here? I had to go through IVF to get pregnant I expect a little more care here. I told her I was worried a lot and couldn't sleep so she says take a nap in the afternnon.....GRRRRR ok vent over. I'm looking for a new Dr. XOXOXO BOTB
UPDATE: OK I called her office and I talked to the secretary and gave her my concerns. I'm going to wait for an answer. If I'm not satisfied. I'm leaving. Oh and did I mention during the visit I didn't gain any weight since my l12 weeks visit and my doctor proceeds to tell me, Are you eating ok? You know this is no time for you to diet!!! HOLY FREAKING COW, she accused me of dieting while pregnant, that is absurd! I was actually upset I didn't gain anything. I want my baby to be healthy!

Re: Unhappy with my Dr.
Remember shes the one who will be delivering your baby.. if your not happy with her.. then i say find someone else. You should have total confidence and trust in your doc, if I didnt i wouldnt stay with them, thats JMHO.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry. Definitely sounds like you should switch doctors. It's so important to have a doctor you trust and who you feel like is there for you and any questions you may have.

Re: Unhappy with my Dr.
Definately switch doctors if you are unhappy. You need to be comfortable with the doctor who is going to deliver your baby.
I will add this though: An OBGYN is not going to treat you any differently just because you had IVF. I went through two round of IVF to get pregnant, and while it was a real adjustment for me once I was released from the RE, I have to realize that I am treated as any other normal pregnant woman. After being so closely monitored for so long, it was hard to get used to. It still is, but I'm happy to have a normal pregnancy and to be treated as such.

Definately switch now if your not happy- you are going to be seeing a lot of her in the next few months...I am 17 weeks and they havn't began measuring my belly yet but so far at every appointment we pee in a cup, listen to HB, blood pressure , weight etc...And as for no level 2 That is one of the more important sonos where the baby gets measured etc.. (unless I'm confused- I'm referring to the 20 week sono)...Sorry you are having such a crummy experience, I would definately start looking elsewhere

I also agree. If she bothers you, switch. But most appointments are just hearing the heartbeat (I'm suprised she didn't check your urine, though). They don't start measuring your uterus until later on. Honestly, the appointments get pretty routine and boring. But if you are uncomfortable, definately switch.

I changed Dr's when I was 23 weeks pregnant...it was the best decision I've ever made!
Good Luck with finding a new Dr you are happy with!

Re: Unhappy with my Dr.
yeah, I also think it's wierd she doesn't recommend a level II..... it's also rather disconcerting that they didn't check your urine for protein at the last appt. my ob office checks urine and blood pressure at every appt.
I will say, though, that I also only heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks, (and since the levels II)
I love the practice I go to, but there's one physician (out of something like 5) that I don't particularly care for....
when I was bleeding at 5.5 weeks, she gave me a sono and checked my cervix. she didn't check my levels to make sure they're doubling wouldn't that be standard for such an occurence? I would have sought out a different practice, except I trust the other physicians completely....
if you're uncomfortable with her, definitely switch physicians.

Re: Unhappy with my Dr.
awww I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience. Sometimes it nice to just have your practitioner for a few minutes just to talk about your concerns etc instead of just leaving right away.
As for checking your urine, there are a few new studies out in medical journals saying that checking urine for protine does not need to be done at every visit to check for toxemia/pre-eclampsia. As long as your Blood pressure is good and you are not having any other side effects I wouldn't worry about it.
As for the level II, if you don't meet certain risk factor criteria than a level II is not medically necessary. THis is not to say that you won't have an ultra sound at this time, just not a level II which is a more detailed view.
If you are really admant about having one speak to your practitioner about it. Unfortunately, if the MD does not think you need one insurance won't cover it.
Good luck in your decision and I hope you find someone that you are comfortable with!

No problem
I saw your update....... IGNORE whatever a secretary says! I've seen your BUMP pictures and you lookg stunning and perfect! SOme visits you are going to gain weight, other visits you are going to loose weight. Remember the majority of weight gain, for most women occurs in the third trimester.
If your MD was concerned about your weight she would have said something. You look great in your pictures! I wouldn't worry about it!

Re: Unhappy with my Dr. (UPDATE)
Bail now- you really find out what your OB is like when you get pregnant. Thankfully, I left mine when I miscarried and have had a great doc with my DD and now a new wonderful one since she retired. There are plenty of great ones out there- LEAVE!

Re: Unhappy with my Dr. (UPDATE)
That sounds like one of my doctors at my practice. He is in and out in a matter of seconds. I drive about 20 minutes to get there, 30 minutes (lately for some reason) waiting in the waiting room and 2 minutes in the office.
That's why I love when the other doctor is in the office...she spends time with me.
