Re: Poem for father to be
My Daddy's Hands
I came into the world And reached for your strong hands, My tiny fingers knew you, Before I could understand.
Your hands proudly held me, And smoothed my newborn hair. They'd grow to love and tickle, And toss me in the air.
Your hands are the teachers, That catch and throw a ball. That steady my two-wheeler, And soften each new fall.
Your hands are the guideposts, That set and keep the rules. Offer good advice and wisdom, And cheer hard work in school.
Your hands are my anchor, As I leave my childhood home. Shake my hand and pat my back, As I live life on my own. One day I'll have a child, And come to understand. The power of love, Held in my Daddy's hands.

Re: Poem for father to be
For the Father of a Boy There are little eyes upon you, And they're watching night and day. There are little ears that quickly Take in every word you say. There are little hands all eager To do anything you do; And a little boy who's dreaming Of the day he'll be like you.
You're the little fellows idol You're the wisest of the wise, In his little mind about you No suspicions ever rise; He believes in you devoutly, Holds that all you say and do, He will say and do in your way When he's all grown up like you.
There's a wide eyed little fellow Who believes you're always right; And his ears are always open, And he watches day and night. You are setting an example Every day in all you do; For the little boy who's waiting To grow up to be like you.

Re: Poem for father to be
found a good one:
For A Father To Be
A life waiting to enter His world The anticipation of a brand new child A mystery of life to be unfurled The moment draws near, his heart beats wild
Two lives to be forever changed Two souls to be forever connected His entire life to be rearranged Some of it known, but most unexpected
This small miracle too soon you will hold This life in your hands, a student to guide To mold and to shape that is pure as gold And in your arms will love to abide
Your heart cannot wait for this moment to come When you see their face wide eyed and new and glad To start your lives new and to bring them home Two hearts, two lives, one bond a child and their dad

Re: Poem for father to be
I'm getting a plaque printed of this classic one for DH as a surprise, it'll hang in baby's room but its just SUCH a great poem and has a great lesson in it for us grown ups too, maybe you like it?
"If" By Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too, If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream--and not make dreams your master, If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much, If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
