Severe Insomnia - anyone else have this? So frustrated!

The last week or so, I have been having such a hard time sleeping. It's so bad, that I am falling asleep on the couch, but when I get to my bed, I either can't sleep or I fall asleep for an hour or two then am up for the night.

Last night was the worst. I kept myself awake all day hoping I could sleep at night. I laid in bed around 1200 and fell asleep, only to wake up 1 hr later and not fall back asleep again. I have been up since 1am. I am so exhausted but just can't sleep. I am not even physically uncomfortable in bed, but I am starting to feel a discomfort in my chest area just from nervousness from a lack of sleep.

Anyone have this and what did you do about it? I can't take it, I want to cry.

yes-- I am always super tired.

It's not being uncomfortable. It's not getting up to pee.

I just cannot sleep.

This is me now coupled with being uncomfortable...I have sooo much on my mind. Dr says its part hormones, I think its part me being insane....and I'm also a major stomach sleeper and just recently started getting uncomfortable on my stomach!Chat Icon

YES!!!!! And its making me miserable. I am up for 4 nights all night and then get one full night of sleep. Last night was up from 1-5. I have to nap during the day otherwise Im falling asleep in my dinner plate. I HATE this and have NOT been sleeping since 2 weeks before my BFP. I cant get comfortable. It sucks.

my doctor suggested keeping a notebook near my bed so that when I wake up I can write down everything on my mind- all the things I am thinking about, questions...I only had to do it twice since I started the notebook thing, but it seemed to work a little bit...

Yes, it is awful. I am lucky to be off in the summer, so it is not impacting my work or anything and I can sleep late in the morning, bu I feel like such a bum waking up at 10 am. The other night was so bad, i started crying hysterically at around 5 am because I just wanted to sleep.

Wow,so this is that common? Luckily I am not working either so it's not effecting that aspect of my life. But it's so annoying b/c when you are up alone all night, the mind runs crazy.

Do you guys really think it's from having things on your mind?

I had this with my last PG beginning around 20 weeks. It was really bad at one point, but if I remember correctly (which I might not to be honest) it did not last very long.

Re: Severe Insomnia - anyone else have this? So frustrated!

I had bad insomnia from about 12 weeks until roughly 22 weeks... It took me a while to figure out WHY... but eventually I think I did. Initially I attributed it to going to the bathroom frequently, but that wasn't really it. After months of miserable sleep, I realized it had more to do with feeling achy and uncomfy in bed. while my belly was small, I think my body wasn't yet adjusted to the redistribution of weight. Also, I think hormones made my other joints (especially my neck) more sensitive. I got some super fluffy pillows for my head, and wedged another pillow under my belly to support the weight. Since then (I'm now 31 weeks) I sleep just fine. I wake up, pee, and fall back to sleep instantly.

so maybe you need to experiment with sleeping positions and conditions a bit?

I will try anything. I do use a pillow under my legs. I feel comfortable overall, other than the fact that our bed feels too small but I can't do anything about that. Thanks for the suggestions.

I was up for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night last night. The night before, I couldn't fall asleep until 2 am. I haven't slept well in months.

Re: Severe Insomnia - anyone else have this? So frustrated!

I had this starting the end of my 5th week through the beginning of my 7th week. It was awful.

Now it's not so bad, I do have occasional night where I wake up at 2AM and fall asleep again an hour before my alarm clock goes off.

Now, my only issue is I'm up every hour and a half to pee, but at least I can fall back asleep now.

I'm sort of in the same boat--I am exhausted and I know I COULD sleep, but I have such severe sciatica that it feels like my leg has a sword in it--and that's what's keeping me up all night. Chat Icon

Did he tell you how often would be ok to take it? I will ask my dr when I can, but the only thing about this is that I don't know if one night here and there will be enough for me. I always did love ty pm!!!

My doc said I can take tylenol PM (2 of them) without affecting baby...however it didn't help me at all...just mellowed my body out.
I think I'm just super uncomfortable...I've been trying to play around with pillows and my snoogle.
